Washington Capitals Game Day Notes (12/27)
After a holiday layoff. The Washington Capitals are back on ice tonight at the Verizon Center. The Caps will host playoff nemesis New York Rangers. The Caps enter the game with a two game losing streak, while the Rangers bring a two game winning streak to the District.
Starting again . . . Phillip Grubauer will start in goal tonight for the Capitals. It will be his sixth start in the last nine games. At this time, the Caps are still carrying three goalies on the roster. Over his last seven games, five of which have been starts, Grubauer has a 2.20 GAA and a .934 save percentage. He continues getting the confidence of head coach Adam Oates over more tested veterans Braden Holtby and Michal Neuvirth.
Laich is out . . . Brooks Laich will not play tonight. Laich continues to be riddled with injuries. It appears this morning that extra work was given to Michael Latta and Alex Urbom, an indication that they are the healthy scratches, along with Laich, for tonight.
Career blips . . . Martin Erat enters tonight’s game just 3 points from 500 career points. Mike Green enters the game four goals away from 100 career goals and 5 points from 300 career points.
Caps streaks . . . Troy Brouwer has a FOUR point scoring streak and a FOUR game assist streak. Eric Fehr has a TWO game scoring streak and a TWO game assist streak. Mikhail Grabovski has scored a goal in consecutive games.
