UPDATE: The Redskins have hired Randy Jordan as their new running backs coach, replacing Bobby Turner, who was fired along with Mike Shanahan at the end of the regular season. Jordan coached running backs at the University of North Carolina in 2012 and 2013. Jordan, 43, played running back himself for the University of North Carolina and was a teammate of Natrone Means under Head Coach Mack Brown. Jordan then went on to play nine seasons in the NFL for the Los Angeles and Oakland Raiders, as well as the Jacksonville Jaguars. In fact, in 1995, Jordan scored the first touchdown in the history of the new Jacksonville NFL franchise. After his playing days ended, Jordan moved into coaching in 2003 with the Raiders. He then moved to the college ranks, coaching running backs at the University of Nebraska [2004-2007] and Texas A&M [2008-2011] before moving back to his alma mater at North Carolina for the past two seasons.

It had been widely assumed that former Redskins running back and running backs coach Earnest Byner would get this job, but, obviously, it didn’t work out that way.

UPDATE: Redskins have hired Jake Peetz as offensive quality control coach. Peetz filled the same position last year at the University of Alabama.

UPDATE: Offensive Coordinator Sean McVay [see below] will also coach the QB position. McVay was the TE coach under Mike Shanahan.

UPDATE:  The Redskins announced today that former NFL wide receiver Ike Hilliard was named Wide Receivers Coach.  Hilliard held the same position with the Redskins in 2012.  Hilliard departed Washington last season and served as wide receivers coach with Buffalo.   Hilliard also got started in his career with the UFL with Jay Gruden.

UPDATE:  As expected after his interview, Wes Phillips, son of former NFL head coach Wade Phillips, has been hired by the Redskins as Tight Ends Coach.  He replaces Sean McVay, who was promoted to Offensive Coordinator under Jay Gruden.  Phillips held the same position in Dallas last season and had been on the Dallas staff since 2007.

UPDATE:  Several other assistant coaches have been confirmed on the Redskins official website, so we confirm here as well.  Jacob Burney will return as DL Coach, Raheem Morris is listed as Secondary Coach, and Chris Foerster is listed as OL Coach.  In addition, there appears to be no change with Strength coaches.  Since they are listed on the official website and we have heard nothing to dispute that, we will list them here as well.

UPDATE: The Redskins will be bringing back a familiar face to Coach Gruden’s staff.  Kirk Olivadotti will return to Washington to coach Inside Linebackers.  Olivadotti previously served on the Redskins coaching staff as a defensive assistant for eleven years.  Olivadotti left the Redskins to join Mark Richt’s staff in Georgia.  The Georgia Bulldogs were hoping Olivadotti would stay on staff, but he has decided to return to the NFL and his former employer, joining the defensive staff of new Redskins coach Jay Gruden.   Olivadoitt will join Brian Barker as Linebackers coaches.

UPDATE: The Redskins have confirmed that Brian Baker has been hired as the new outside linebackers coach. See below for more on Baker.

UPDATE: The Redskins have interviewed NY Jets special teams coach Ben Kotwica, presumably about filling the same job in Washington. The Redskins were able to interview Kotwica because his contract with the Jets has expired and the team has not yet signed him to a new one. Essentially, he’s a coaching free agent. Football Outsiders ranked the Jets special teams as 10th-best in the NFL in 2013. The Redskins, of course, were ranked last by a wide margin.

UPDATE: The Redskins have reportedly hired Brian Baker to serve as outside linebackers coach. Baker held the same job with the Cleveland Browns in 2013. Baker was an assistant coach with the Maryland Terrapins in 1984 and since 1996 has worked in the NFL as a defensive coach in San Diego, St. Louis, Carolina, Minnesota and Dallas — always coaching linebackers or the defensive line. Baker worked with Redskins defensive coordinator Jim Haslett when both were on the staff with the St. Louis Rams.

UPDATE: Former Redskins running back Earnest Byner [1989-1993] and running backs coach [2004-2007] is reportedly in DC to interview for RB coach job.

UPDATE: Sean McVay has been promoted from TE coach to offensive coordinator.
