Maryland football has been receiving all the attention of late, but that figures to end at Florida State on Saturday. As Terrapin fans typically do each season, the focus will shift to basketball in November.

Fall practice began on Saturday and coach Mark Turgeon is trying something different this Fall, 8am practices. Turgeon says it discourages players from late night activities and it gives him more time to recruit high school prospects in the afternoons and evenings. Maryland is expected to return to the customary 1pm practices when Spring semester rolls around.

Maryland will have to replace center Alex Len, who departed for the NBA with sophomore Shaq Cleare expected to garner a majority of the minutes in the pivot. Cleare had been having back issues, but he has been fully cleared by team doctors. The team awaits word on Penn State transfer Jon Graham’s availability. With only nine scholarship players, Graham’s appeal for a waiver to allow him to play this season could be a key factor in the team’s success.

For the first time in eleven years, the Terps will play at Cole Field House with Midnight Madness on Friday, October 18th. Legendary former coaches Lefty Driesell and Gary Williams are both expected to attend.
