NFL Network head anchor Rich Eisen is a big fan of Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III, as he made clear during an interview today with 106.7 FM The Fan.

“He’s awesome,” Eisen told 106.7 The Fan’s Lavar and Dukes Thursday. “I just love everything about him. And just the way he treats the fans, and the way he goes about his business.”

Eisen gushed about Griffin saying he is well on his way to becoming the biggest sports superstar the this region has seen since Ray Lewis or Cal Ripken, Jr.

“I’m familiar with the area,” Eisen said. “The mid-Atlantic area has been in constant search for somebody remotely close to [Michael Jordan] … So personally, maybe not someone since Cal has there been somebody with the potential to be so beloved.”

Eisen also wholeheartedly agreed with Mike Shanahan‘s decision to not play RG3 in the preseason, a decision I think is one of Shanahan’s best since coming to Washington.

“I am fine that he is not playing preseason,” Eisen said, also dismissing suggestions that Griffin play sparingly in the fourth quarter of the final preseason game just to knock off a little rust.

“Against guys who are going to be at the Home Depot in 16 hours? I mean why in the world would you do that?” he wondered.

Eisen declined to predict how the NFC East will go this season, which is understandable. I’m not sure what to make of the division myself. Even assuming a healthy Griffin and a healthy Brian Orakpo, the Redskins face a much more difficult schedule in 2013 than they did last year. Most of the time I think another 10-6 record would be a smashing success. The Giants are up and down and there is no way of knowing what they will do. The Cowboys had terrible injury problems, as the Redskins did, last year. Will the Cowboys be healthier and, thus, better in 2013? And how will they take to their new defense and new defensive coordinator, Monte Kiffin

I’ll have a prediction about the Redskins and the NFC East as we get closer to the regular season. I’m glad I don’t have to make any predictions right now!
