Redskins Sign LB Quan Sturdivant

Updated: August 15, 2013

I like this signing and was actually hoping the Redskins would have drafted him in the 2011 NFL Draft. Quan Sturdivant, 6’1″ 240, was selected in the sixth round by the Arizona Cardinals. He spent his rookie season on the Cardinals practice squad, but was released last summer. Kansas City added him to their practice squad in November.

Sturdivant started 38 of 46 games at the University of North Carolina where he picked up 309 career tackles. He slid in the ’11 draft after an injury during his senior season and some off the field concerns.

Sturdivant is insurance in case veteran inside linebacker Nick Barnett cannot recover adequately to contribute. Barnett was signed on July 31, but has yet to practice as he recovers from offseason knee surgery. Head Coach Mike Shanahan has already ruled Barnett out for Monday night against Pittsburgh, but says there is an “outside chance” he gets some action in week three against Buffalo.
