Redskins’ QB Robert Griffin III press conference excerpts
Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III met the media today, a few days after an embarrassing Monday night loss to the 49ers. As expected, Griffin has been the center of a whirlwind of media coverage, including comments from other players, such as SF LB Ahmad Brooks and Ravens DE Chris Canty, that Griffin should not being playing right now. Jon Gruden, according to Twitter, even indicated the Redskins should possibly look at QB Kirk Cousins.
“I do think in the next month to five weeks, you’re gonna want to probably see what you have in Kirk Cousins.”
Despite the media and other players commenting that Griffin should sit and heal, sources close to the Redskins do not believe that to be a possibility. Clearly, Griffin is under siege within the media and with other players, who do not believe he should be playing right now.
Here are Griffin’s comments from today’s presser:
“We just gotta make a conscious effort that we’re gonna get better. We have to win. We have to win now.”
Well, not really Robert. You needed to win the past two weeks.
“Me and my offensive lineman are fine.”
This is apparently in reference to a rumor of possible tension between RG3 and his lineman. We never really gave that rumor much credence anyway.
“My Dad came to check on me. Wanted to do his fatherly duties. Obviously I was kicked in the gonads. Mon was upset. There will be a Griffin IV. Anybody out there going after my Dad needs to backup.”
RG3 addresses his father coming into the locker room after the Monday night loss. Griffin gets laughter in addressing the visit. He said he was shocked to see his Dad, but that his Dad was apparently checking on his because of concern he was injured. Good to hear Griffin compassionately defend his Dad.
Here is a comment that Mike Shanahan made today as related to Griffin
“When tough times start, you have to be tough enough to fight through it. He is tough enough to fight through it.”
Other Injury Notes: On the did not practice list today were TE Niles Paul and FB Darrel Young. TE Jordan Reed was limited. The fact Reed was limited is a good sign for the Redskins. Reed missed the Monday night game due to concussion symptoms.
