Redskins Interviewing 3 NFL Coordinators for Head Coach

The Washington Redskins’ search for a new head coach continues now that it has been a week since the team fired Mike Shanahan and most of his coaching staff.

The Redskins have interviewed Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and will interview Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott on Saturday. Those interviews have happened or are happening soon because the Seahawks and Panthers are both in the playoffs, though they have a bye for the first week since they are the first and second seeds in the NFC tournament. Bevell has also interviewed with the Minnesota Vikings.

NFL reporter Ian Rappaport is also reporting the Redskins are interviewing NY Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell for their head coaching job. The Giants season is over and Fewell is free to interview with anyone he likes. Fewell was an interim head coach with the Buffalo Bills back in 2009 and the Giants defense just finished eighth in the NFL rankings this season.

Finally, the Redskins will interview former Indianapolis Colts head coach Jim Caldwell, who has served as the offensive coordinator and QB coach for the Oakland Raiders. He posted a 26-22 record as the Colts’ head coach from 2009-11; that mark included a 14-2 mark in 2009 and a loss in the Super Bowl, as well as a 2-14 final season with quarterback Peyton Manning sidelined. He went 26-63 in eight seasons as the head coach at Wake Forest.
