During his Monday morning press conference Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan revealed the team has lost long snapper Nick Sundberg and LB Bryan Kehl for the season due to injuries suffered in Sunday night’s 31-16 loss to the Cowboys in Dallas.

Bryan Kehl suffered a torn ACL in his knee during the 86-yard punt return for a touchdown. Ironically, Kehl was in position to make the tackle when his knee gave out and he “heard something pop.” As soon as I read that I was pretty certain Kehl would be done with a torn ACL. The “pop” sound generally means one thing. Sundberg suffered a torn meniscus injury and is similarly done until 2014. Center Will Montgomery snapped the ball after Sundberg’s injury and it isn’t known who will take over long snapping duties full-time. Presumably the team will start working out replacement long snappers Tuesday.

In addition, CB David Amerson suffered a concussion last night, also on the punt return for a TD. Cowboys blocker Cameron Lawrence hit Amerson in the head with his helmet, an illegal move that was not flagged by the officials. It isn’t known how long Amerson will be out, but he will have to pass the NFL concussion protocols before he can practice again, much less play in a game.
