Ready for football? RG3 is!

Updated: July 22, 2013

Washington Redskins football is close.

Very close.

In fact, some of the veterans will be reporting this week for Redskins training camp, set to commence on Thursday.

The big lingering question of the off-season was the health of Robert Griffin III’s knee, which was surgically repaired shortly after the season.  That was questions is less lingering today.

Griffin tweeted earlier today that he had been cleared to resume practice.

Doctors cleared me to practice. Coach is going to ease me in. Thank you for your support & See you in Richmond

We got the feeling a few months ago that RGIII was ahead of schedule, much like RB Adrian Petersen just a year and half ago.  Word leaked out several times that his rehabilitation was ahead of schedule and that Dr. James Andrews was giddy about his progress.  Still, questions lingered within the sports world on whether RGIII would be ready for the opening of the season.  At OTA’s in early June, Griffin was jogging more than 2 miles and sprinting with cutting exercises, which seem to confirm reports that Griffin’s knee was healing more rapidly than most expected.

The fact he has been cleared to practice is a clear indication that the looming question of opening day status had been clearly answered.  Dr. Andrews examined Griffin late last week and advised the Redskins to clear him for full practice activities.  A remarkable recovery and story for the Redskins quarterback.

So, not only should you be excited as hell that Redskins football is right around the corner, but #10 will be ready to roll.  The one thing that remains unclear is the time line that Mike Shanahan has on Griffin’s playing time in the preseason, if any.
