No. 20 Pittsburgh completed a series sweep of unranked Maryland with a 83-79 win @ the Comcast Center in College Park on Saturday night. Senior guard Lawrence Patterson was a one man show with 28 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. The Terps have now lost four out of their last five and coach Mark Turgeon is impressed with the Panthers;

I’m telling you, that’s one of the best teams I’ve ever coached against, how they’re ranked 20th at 18-2 is an absolute joke. I think they’re a Top 5 team in this country

Maryland (11-9, 3-4 in ACC), which lost by 20 points in Pittsburgh earlier this month, kept the game relatively close in the first half trailing only 42-37 at intermission. Pitt extended their lead to 67-55 midway through the second half and despite struggling from the foul line down the stretch, 32 free throws made add up and they held on for the win.

Dez Wells led the Terrapins with 19 points and added four steals, while Jake Layman played well with 18 points and five rebounds. Maryland managed only 4-for-17 from long distance and sent the Panthers to the foul line 47 times. Foul trouble prevailed with four starters playing with four fouls and top reserve Charles Mitchell fouling out.
