Pat White Starting Against Bucs
Pat White will start against the Bucaneers on Thursday night in Tampa, according to ESPN’s John Keim. Barring injury, the plan is for White to play the entire game at quarterback.
Obviously, the Redskins want Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins healthy for the opener and Rex Grossman has nothing to prove.
With White ineligible for the practice squad, Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan is doing White a favor as he will be trying to impress his next team.
“Pat hasn’t been totally consistent in all his drops in the rhythm of the passing game,” Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said. “But he’s gotten better each week. He can still get a lot better.”
“The more football he’s around, the more he works at it, the better he’ll get,” Shanahan said. “He’s as hard on himself as anyone I’ve been around. … It’s just a matter of time that he can be as good as he wants.”
I have said all along that I believe the team should keep White as the third quarterback. He certainly is best suited for running most of the zone/read packages that are designed for Griffin.
The Redskins are looking to close out the pre-season unbeaten.
