No Nats Game, but Nats Minor League Notes

The Washington Nationals were off last night.  So, we still bring you some baseball notes.  Here are some notes around the Washington Nationals minor league system.

AAA:  Danny Espinosa went 3 for 6 last night and raised his batting average over .200 to .208.  Espinosa has struggled at the plate since his demotion from Washington.   Zack Walters lead the Nationals system with 29 home runs.

AA:  Billy Burns is continuing to have a fantastic season at the plate.  After batting .308 at Potomac, Burns was promoted to AA Harrisburg.  In 23 games at AA, Burns is batting .330 with 3 doubles, 19 runs score,d and 11 stolen bases.  Combined for the season, Burns is batting .313 has scored 87 runs, and leads the system with 62 stolen bases.  He is batting .368 over his last 10 games.  Nathan Karns got the win last night, improving to 9-6 on the season.  Karns racked up another 8 strikeouts to bring his season total to 148.  Jason Martinson is struggling since his promotion out of A ball to AA.  Martinson is batting just .186 in 49 games in Harrisburg.  Aaron Barrett has been splendid for Harrisburg this season in the closer role.  For the season, Barrett is 1-1 with 26 saves and an ERA of 2.16.  he has walked only 16 compared to 68 strikeouts over 50 innings.  AJ Cole is showing good stuff since his promotion to AA.  In 6 starts at Harrisburg, Cole is 3-2 with a 2.58 ERA.  He has walked just 8 while fanning 42 over 38.1 innings.  Combine don the season, Cole is 9-5 with a 3.78 ERA and has recorded 144 strikeouts over 135.2 innings.

A:  Brandon Miller is on a tear since being promoted to Potomac from Hagerstown.  Since his promotion, he is batting .333 with 5 doubles, 3 triples, and a home run in 24 games.  Combined, he is batting .259 with 31 doubles, 5 triples, and 19 homers.  he has driven in 86 runs.  Colin Bates is an overlooked reliever in the system.  In 2011, Bates posted a 2.98 ERA in Hagerstown.  In 2012, he posted a 2.79 ERA at Hagerstown.  This season, at Potomac, he is 4-4 with 1 save with an ERA of 1.85.  he has allowed just 8 walks, compared to 45 strikeouts.  Blake Schwartz leads the Nationals system with an impressive 13-4 record with a stellar 2.42 ERA.  Since his promotion to Potomac, he is 11-4 with a 2.56 ERA.  Combined on the season, Schwartz has appeared in 137.1 innings and has yielded 26 walks compared to 96 strikeouts.  Opposing batters are hitting .215 off Schwartz.  Down in Hagerstown, the 2012 2nd round pick Tony Renda is having a decent season, batting .291 in his 494 at bats.  he leads the system with 41 doubles and has 27 stolen bases.  Brett Mooneyham, another gem int he 2012 draft, is a combined 10-4 with a 2.44 ERA over 18 starts.  In 96 innings and has recorded 80 strikeouts.  Opposing batter are hitting just .171 off Mooneyham.
