Nats Minor League Playoff update (9/9)

Good news for the future of the Washington Nationals.  All three of the Washington Nationals minor league system teams in their respective playoffs are heading or in championship series’.   Here is a look at the where the three minor leagues clubs are in their series.

Harrisburg Senators (AA)

The Harrisburg Senators wrapped up their playoff series Saturday night with a 5-1 win.  That win propelled the Senators to their first Eastern League Championship series since 2002.  The Senators swept themselves into the Championship behind the bat of Steve Souza and the arm of Robbie Ray.  Souza went 4-4 with3 doubles, 2 runs, 2RBI and 2 stolen bases to lead the Senators offensively.  On the mound, Ray tossed 6.2 innings and allowed just 3 hits and 1 run while fanning 6 batters.  Richie Mirkowski slammed the door for the Senators, throwing two scoreless innings of relief, allowing just 1 hit.  The win ousted Erie form the playoffs and sent the Senators into the Championship series to face Trenton.  That series start tomorrow.

Potomac Nationals (A)

Potomac loss yesterday 4-0 to fall behind 2 games to 1 in the Mill Cup Championship series.   The PNats offense only mustered 6 total hits, 2 coming from Cutter Dykstra and 2 from Randolph Oduber.  Brett Mooneyham tossed 4 innings and allowed 1 hit, 4 walks, and 2 runs to get tagged with the loss.

Hagerstown Suns (A)

Hagerstown won the best of three series to claim the Northern Division Championship in the South Atlantic League.   The Suns ousted West Virginia in a best of three series with a 6-2 decision on Saturday.  2013 draft pick Issac Ballou was 4 for 5 with 3 runs scored, while Tony Renda, Shawn Pleffner, and Wander Ramos each knocked in two runs.  Kylin Turnbull allowed 6 hits and 2 runs over 5 innings to earn the win.  Ronald Pena threw 4 shutout innings to earn the save.  They will now begin play tonight for the overall South Atlantic League Championship against the Savannah Sand Gnats in a best of five series.
