Nats acquire prospect from Tampa Bay

The Washington Nationals have completed the trade with Tampa Bay that sent OF David Dejesus to Tampa.  The Nats acquired Dejesus off waivers, then flipped him over to Tampa Bay.  To complete the transaction, the Nationals acquired Single A pitcher Matthew Spann.

Spann was a 25th round draft choice of Tampa Bay in the 2010 MLB Draft right out of high school.  In his first full season of minor league ball, Spann posted a 4-1 record with a 3.13 ERA in 10 starts and 14 total appearances.  He recorded 61 strikeouts in 66 innings.  In 2012, Spann made 14 starts at the New York Penn League (A) and posted a 5-5 record with a 3.59 ERA.   This season he appeared in 19 games, including 4 starts, in Single A and posted a 4-3 record with 2 saves and a strong ERA of 2.87.  In total, with three full seasons of minor league ball under his belt, Spann has a record of 14-10 with a solid ERA of 3.03
