Ryan Zimmerman worked out at first base on Tuesday, which is going to be his home on a permanent basis as soon as next season. Expect Manager Matt Williams to pencil in Zimmerman at first against tough left handers in place of Adam LaRoche this season.

The real (or pretend as some are calling it) position battle lies at second base where Danny Espinosa is trying to regain his starting job from Anthony Rendon. After an injury plagued 2013 season, the switch hitting, 26 year old Espinosa is trying to find the form of 2011 and 2012, when he was one of the top young middle infielders in the National League.

Baseball America released their new prospect list today on twitter. The top minor leaguer for Washington? Hard throwing Lucas Giolito, the No. 21 prospect in all of baseball. The 19 year old is expected to begin the season at Class Low-A Hagerstown. The Nationals are taking it slow with the 6’6″ 225 pound right hander, who is only a year and a half removed from Tommy John surgery.

Matt Purke is another Nationals prospect recovering from arm problems and like Giolito, he has a huge upside. Purke developed shoulder problems while at Texas Christian, but Washington gambled and signed him in 2010 for nearly $3 million dollars, significantly above his draft slot. Protected on the Nats 40-man roster, Purke should begin the season in Double-A.

As if major league hitters needed something else to worry about, Stephen Strasburg is working on a new pitch! Jordan Zimmermann is working with Strasburg on a slider, to go with his already nasty arsenal of fastball, curveball and change up.

How about those drones providing an eye in the sky in Viera? A remote controlled quadcopter, fully equipped with a GoPro camera is providing a very unique perspective.

Believe it or not, we are just over a week away from Nats on the radio! On Friday the 28th, you can listen to the Nationals at the Mets on tape delay from Port St. Lucie, Florida at 7pm on 106.7 The Fan.
