The traditional tip of the college basketball season comes on Friday night with the annual “Maryland Madness” basketball extravaganza.

To tip off the Terrapins final basketball season in the Atlantic Coast Conference, Maryland Madness is being held at Cole Field House. The Terps haven’t played at Cole in eleven seasons, but called the facility home from 1955 to 2002.

Coach Mark Turgeon knows how big a part Cole plays in Maryland tradition. “Cole Field House represented many of the most iconic and memorable moments in Maryland basketball program history.”

Cole was a distinct home court advantage for the Terrapins, as six times the Terps upset the nation’s top ranked team at the cozy field house.

Former coaches Lefty Driesell and Gary Williams are expected to attend. Driesell is the father of midnight madness, while Williams was coaching the Terrapins when they won their only national championship in 2002.

Doors for Maryland Madness open at 5:30 PM with the event tipping off at 6:30 PM.
