Justice handed out in Sean Taylor murder case

Updated: January 23, 2014

The long delayed m,ruder trial of former Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor has finally concluded with the sentencing of convicted murder Eric Rivera.  Rivera was sentenced to 57 years in prison.

Looking to steal money, Rivera confessed to police on that he fired the fatal shot that killed Taylor, when Taylor confronted him and two others at his bedroom door.   Rivera confessed that none of the perpetrators expected Taylor to be in the home.  However, Taylor was home nursing a knee injury after the Philadelphia game instead of playing in the next Redskins game against Tampa Bay.

Rivera expressed regret to the Taylor family.

In a brief statement, Rivera told members of Taylor’s family he was sorry for the killing and that Taylor was “a good man.”

“I live with his death every day. I’m going to have to deal with the consequences,” he said.

One other perpetrator has pled guilty and the other two are awaiting trial.  Stunningly, the murder happened back in 2007 and it took this long for justice to be served.
