Giants @ Redskins To Stay In Primetime
It appears the Redskins will host back to back nationally televised prime time games after all.
UPDATE: Kansas City @ Denver earned 16.6 overnight ratings, the second highest of the season, trailing only Peyton Manning’s return to Indianapolis in Week 7. Obviously the Chiefs-Broncos rematch has a greater post season impact as well, so NBC may be yielding to the much larger New York and Washington markets. Let’s face it the NFL headquarters is in New York after all and the league may have frowned on the Peacock network bumping the resurgent Giants in back to back weeks.
On Thursday, we warned that the time slot might be in jeopardy with NBC certain to consider it’s flex option to move a different game into that slot. The NFL promised a decision by Tuesday and word came down a day early. Through the NFL’s Communication website, the league announced that NBC would not be making a change. I imagine the ratings for the Chiefs and Broncos on Sunday night could have been lower than expected? If not, I am very curious what was the determining factor to leave the schedule as is, perhaps something as simple as much larger TV markets.
Last night’s (Sunday) Kansas City @ Denver game was “flexed” into prime time, bumping Green Bay at the Giants to an afternoon kickoff. With the rematch between the Broncos and Chiefs scheduled for Sunday December 1st, NBC took a long look at moving it into their prime time Football Night in America slot, again bumping the Giants, this time against the Redskins at Fed Ex Field.
The Redskins return home Week 12, hosting the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football. As usual, Thanksgiving is a busy time for the NFL with a pair of afternoon games kicking off Week 13, in addition to the regularly scheduled Thursday night game.
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 28 (WEEK 13)
GREEN BAY AT DETROIT 12:30 PM (ET) FOX
OAKLAND AT DALLAS 3:30 PM (CT) CBS
PITTSBURGH AT BALTIMORE 8:30 PM (ET) NBC
The Monday night game could be a NFC Championship game preview with the Seahawks hosting the New Orleans Saints in Seattle.
