Both Mike Shanahan and Bruce Allen have confirmed that the door remains open to Chris Cooley to return to the Redskins. In fact, Shanny confirmed today that the club will meet with Cooley next week.

for a reasonable price i would love to have Cooley back . . . he was just not worth the contract he had anymore . . .
Cutting Banks would be the equivalent of saying "We want a fan favorite and 3rd string TE on the roster as opposed to a playmaker". Just about anyone you would have to cut (Briscoe, Robinson, Banks) would be a downgrade in overall roster talent and upside / playmaking ability. It would weaken the roster. The only player you could argue about would be Paulsen and he is the best blocker at that position. I hope this is just talk. This would be a backwards move.
i hope that Banks is a "playmaker" because i don't see it . . . sure he will break one long once in a while on the kickoffs, but kickoff returns are few and far between now and he does NOTHING as a WR . . . plus all it will take is a a good hit and he will be DONE . . . where did he rank last year in kickoff returns?? 20th . . . that to me is not a great returner (Source ESPN) . . .
I've already got a couple of questions about the roster, mainly why trade Barnes for a relatively meaningless 7th rd pick, and then pick up Crezdon Butler? I would much rather have Barnes, who could play multiple positions over Butler, who was cut by Cb desperate Pittsburgh and Arizona. Barnes is at least serviceable in different roles. This is a roster downgrade that could prove hurtful in my opinion.
Signing Cooley now would seem to indicate unhappiness with either Davis or Paul as producers in my opinion. That we haven't seen much of Davis this preseason has to be somewhat concerning, and Paul has been very inconsistant receiving as well. I don't see how Cooley fits on the team now given the youth movement and current roster construction except just as insurance for unproductivity.
What they desperately need in my opinion is another tackle and another cornerback. If Bernstine can be productive, he has the skill to play all secondary positions, and eliminate Butler from the roster. They probably want to see how the Saints game goes first, but have to figure it would be Banks or Butler leaving for Cooley if they make the move.
i have a feeling that come monday the skins are gonna be trying out safeties and dbs after breese torches them sunday. If they bring cooley back,i hope it's for helping the team as opposed to making the fan base happy.
