i just read that and it actually had me a bit pissed . . . as much as Shanny has done a lot of good things, this kind of thing cannot happen, especially with a player as special as RGIII . . . Let's face it, Shanny lies all the time. Obviously, RG3 should not have gone back in that game considering he missed the next one entirely and hasn't looked right since.
So the docs don't really have the control of the situation as the NFL seems to pretend. How could a sideline doc tell you anything anyway, without diagnostic equipment? When I watched the Ravens game I thought it was strange that he went back in. Obviously, the knee was hurting and returning to the game was not going to improve things. You limp off and then go back in why? So you can be carried off later. Stupid. That still shot of his knee buckling on CNN will give you the creeps. So he had one surgery for a torn ACL at Baylor and this is the same knee. From what I see on the web repeat surgeries for second torn ACL's are more complicated and much less successful.
The Shanahans should have thought of the long range future of Robert Griffin and the Redskins. I hope to God this isn't a torn ACL. In any case, it looks like the end of the read option, but then again how many running QB's had long careers? None that I can think of.

I didn't think this could get worse. Then I read this in Jason Reid's column at the Post :

I think that is back pedaling and just standard damage control. Everyone will be trying to cover their ass now. A doctor on the sidelines couldn't tell you much anyway, he has no way of knowing. I hope the NFL does something but they probably won't.

yup . . . we need MRI machines in every locker room!! not sure what you can do . . . many players play injured
I think we have learned that prudence demands more caution in such situations. Now whether Shanahan, RG3 or anyone else has learned is another story. But just consider the history of this situation, if RG3 had been taken out of the Ravens game earlier, the knee injury would not have become worse. With a week or two of rest he would likely would have been fine. "Playing hurt" is admirable and heroic but what's the point if the end result is even worse injury?

i hear you . . . not sure that we know everything though . . . i think the injury in Baltimore caused more than a minor LCL sprain . . . he should have showed improvements each weak if that were the case and he seemed to get worse and his knee seemed more unstable . . . maybe he was just not allowing it to heal, but i feel there was already damage to the ACL, either known or unknown . . . maybe the scar tissue and so on from the last procedure he had in college was masking the ACL issue . . . maybe they seen it and decided since the knee was going to have to be rebuilt anyway so at RGIII's request they let him try to ride out the season (almost made it) . . . don't know for sure . . . probably won't . . . but either way all we can hope for now is a speedy recovery . . .
