Redskins to work on contract extension with Shanahan

That person, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the issue publicly, said he did not believe that a final decision had been made on the matter but he thinks it is likely the Redskins will pursue the extension with Shanahan this offseason rather than waiting.

Another person with knowledge of the Redskins’ plans said an extension with Shanahan could be done but “not until after the season.”

Given what Mike Shanahan has done with this team starting at the end of November 2011, embarking on the youth movement, I am all for this. Shows a commitment tot he present plan. Stability.

If Shanny gets a deep run into the playoffs this year and has another good draft, and gets a SB this year or next, I think he might be willing to turn the reigns over to Kyle and not even need the extension.
