A look at 2013 NFL free agents

Here you go. It is awesome not to worry about this crap now, because we are still in the thick of winning a division, but here is a list for future reference.

hmmm . . . not a great list IMO . . . Jarious Bryd would be the FA FS i would love to see come here . . . he plays hard, smart, fast and is a ball hawk!! . . . the OT's don't look to promising to me . . . there are a couple of TE's that would be ok like Dustin Keller, Heath Miller and even at a descent price fred davis . . . also, while it would be a luxury we most likely cannot afford, Greg Jennings would be HUGE in this offense and would make a stellar replacement for Moss . . .

I would send Redskins 1 to go and pick up Byrd. That would be my first stop then a CB like Rodgers-Cromartie then as far as RT i guess i would go Andre Smith but i dont know if he would fit into the ZBS(so maybe not).

Obviously we have to get Fred Davis back

We have the other half of the $18 million cap charge coming in 2013, might not be able to do too much. I think the 2 pieces we need (RT & FS) could be found in the draft.

what about players that we will be having to part ways with like . . . Hall (HUGE cap number either he restructures big time or buh bye) . . . Brown (BUH BYE) . . . Moss has a BIG cap number . . . and we have FA's in lichty, Davis, etc . . . i read somewhere with expected cuts and resturcturigns couple with the 7 million we are under the cap being moved forward we can be expected to have approx 15 - 17 million in cap space . . . gonna have to be creative for sure

I would suspect, even despite quality play last week, that the Redskins will part ways with Hall. Brown is a no brainer.

According to Brian Paxton* we need to target these guys in free agency
    1. FS Jairus Byrd, Buffalo Bills
    2. S Louis Delmas, Detroit Lions
    3. RT Andre Smith, Cincinnati Bengals
    4. DT Israel Idonije, Chicago Bears
    5. TE Dustin Keller, New York Jets

I think he's skipping our own free agents, but I like his list... well... I like 1, 2, & 3. Not sure how I feel about 4 and can't really see bringing in #5 unless there's trouble with Paulsen & Davis.

I'm on board with a lot of you who are on the Byrd bandwagon. He'd be a heck of a signing.
I actually have a friend who's a Detroit fan so I watch games with him occasionally. Delmas seems like a good choice to me if we can't get Jairus... heck, both of them on the field could be cool. Can you imagine Byrd at FS and Delmas at SS. Could be interesting.
Another friend of mine is a Bengals fan (my friends aren't right in the head) and Andre Smith is a really good RT. I think he'd be excellent in Washington and seems pretty durable outside of a minor foot injury that hasn't cost him any playing time that I can remember.

Free agents I'd like to keep:
DL Chris Baker RFA (small deal)
DL Kedric Golston UFA (small deal)
    FB Darrel Young RFA
    LB Lorenzo Alexander UFA
    LB Robert Jackson UFA
OG Kory Lichtensteiger UFA (small deal)
    OL Nick Sundberg RFA
OT Tyler Polumbus UFA (small deal)
    P Sav Rocca UFA
SS Madieu Williams UFA (maybe... good camp competition at the right price)
    TE Fred Davis UFA
    TE Logan Paulsen RFA
Free agents I don't see coming back:
CB Cedric Griffin UFA (let's see how he does in the playoffs, but right now... I'd say goodbye)
KR Brandon Banks RFA (enough is enough)
LB Chris Wilson UFA (failed experiment)
OT Jordan Black UFA (filled in well, but I kind of look for him to retire, but who knows)
QB Rex Grossman UFA (see Brandon Banks)
TE Chris Cooley UFA (cut him last year, I see more of the same in his future)
FS Tanard Jackson UFA (cut our losses now)

With our salary cap issues, this is a tall order.
12 of our own free agents plus 3-5 external free agents doesn't seem doable.

    Thoughts?

Great Post!! . . . well . . . not sure that Israel Idonije fits our system . . . Jarius Bryd would be great, i do want him to come and play FS here!! . . . Delmas is getting the injury prone lable, and not sure what he would bring over Merriweather . . . and i'd be fine with Dustin Keller instead of Fred Davis . . .

as for our FA . . . i'd say no to Madieu Williams . . . i'd find a younger replacement for Sav Rocca who hasn't been anywhere near as good this year IMO and he is old . . . and depending on what we do in the draft possibly time to finally say goodbye to Kedric Golston too . . . also, cedric griffin, depending on what happens with our CB/FS positions would be an ok player to keep around, but at a cheap price to be the 4th/5th CB and backup FS . . . .
