    Interersting Shanny stat

Posted by Dan Steinberg from the Washington Post.

Mike Shanahan has the second worst record in Washington Redskins history through the first 40 games coaching.

    Wow.

Given the fact, year to year, franchises improve and flop, how is it possible that this franchise stays remarkably consistent, which is consistently poor. We see NFL teams each season who were bad the prior season make significant strides. How about the 2-15 Colts sitting at 4-3.How about the Dolphins at 4-3? How about the once awful Texans at 6-1?How about the Vikings at 5-3?

Then you take teams like the Patriots, Packers, Giants, and Ravens, and they seem to be good every year, despite the feelings that they are getting "old" yet year in and year out, they are good.

But our Redskins --- every year since our last Superbowl, everything remains consistent. The Redskins are a team that resides at the cellar of the NFC East and a non-factor in the NFC playoff picture.

Now, once again, we sit at 3-5 with a real scenario unraveling that the Redskins may very well once again finish the season sub .500. Yet, many of us will o9nce again day, look, we have RGIII, we are improving. Wonder how many years we will say that? Fact is, we are better at QB, but significantly weak at WR, defense, and special teams. The team appears to be treading, well, no where.

So what's the thoughts? Does RGIII buy Mike Shanahan another year if the Redskins finish say 6-10 or 5-11? If so, have the Redskins become a franchise that considers 6-10 or 5-11 normal?

ONLY because i don't want RGIII starting over with a completely new offensive system i say one more year . . . if he doesn't get this team to the playoffs next season then you have to say bu bye . . .

I would give Shanny 1 more year. RG3 deserves to have some consistency on the offensive side of the ball. I have to disagree, i like our WRs. If we could get Garcon healthy that is, because i think he would be a force in this offense and that would push Hank to the #2 with Moss in the slot and Morgan to the #3.

Now the defense needs lots of help and would love for someone who knows how to run a 3-4 defense to come in, but are there any good Dcoords out there that coach a 3-4?

Our OL could use an upgrade at RT, wouldnt mind picking up Andre Smith from the bengals.

like rick snider says,we are stuck with shanny until 2014. i personally hope somebody like texas hires kyle away this off season.i think we have a better chance of winning with a new oc.only reason the plays are working this year is because of rg3 and morris.snyder will probably insist that haslett and danny smith go,which they should have after last season.

Loosing Davis and not having Garcon has deprived the offense of their two fastest skill players not named RGIII. The defense cannot generate any pass rush. Kerrigan is never going to be elite. The defense needs a Clay Matthews type that can consistenly beat one of one blocking to get to the QB and force teams to double team him. They also have no one that can cover at CB and no safety with speed to take away the deep game.

We can run the ball with the best of them and if Garcon ever decides to get and stay healthy, the passing game could flourish.

The defense needs to be rebuilt with talent at OLB and all 4 DB positions.

Kerigan does not have to be elite,he needs to be consistent, and eventually,he will be. like i said,i would rather pass on reupping orakpo and find somebody who can rush the passer cause he sure as hell has'nt! with the cap situation,i can't see davis signing back either!

I think the 800 lb. gorilla in the room here that we seem to be ignoring is Dan Snyder. He is why this franchise is the way it is right now. His megalomania has created a situation that keeps good free agents and good coaching personnel away from Washington. Yes, he appears to have taken the back seat for now and that's fine but it takes time to overcome the negativity on this team and its negative image throughout the rest of the NFL. By any objective standard I think Shanahan needs to be fired. But for the long term welfare of the team I think it would be a bad move right now. If Snyder succumbs to the temptation to start his idiotic micromanaging again, this team is cooked for keeps. But that doesn't mean we can't find another defensive coordinator right now for one thing. I'd like to see a situation where good free agents are enthusiastic about coming to Washington and one where good coaching peronnel are anxious to come to Washington. If Snyder can remain in the background we have a shot at making it happen. Just my two cents.
