How much credit does KS get for RG3 development?
i read this yesterday . . . good article . . . i really believe its more of a 50/50 thing . . . Kyle has done a great job of tailoring the offense around RGIII and what RGIII was already comfortable with. And the offense has been added to on a weekly basis which means that RGIII gets to master new aspects and concepts a little at a time, which is how he can master them and not just get em . . . on the other hand, RGIII is a rare talent and is capable of doing anything Kyle asks of him . . . and more . . . good relationship IMO!!
I think this is another instance where RGIII makes everyone around him look better. I also think that RGIII was lucky to get Kyle as his coordinator. Robert is the perfect QB for this offense I think Kyle get a lot of the credit for play calling and game plan. But it has to be easier to game plan with RG3 than with Rex!
I am also hoping it rejuvenates Shanny Sr, maybe getting to the Hall will mean a few good seasons for the Skins.
The offense and RG3's performance within it certainly makes Donovan McNabb -- remember him? -- look bad. He said before the season that RG3 would fail in DC because the Shanahans were too inflexible to build their offense around his particular skill set and would insist on shoving him into the system they preferred. Obviously, they're not doing that. The team still runs a lot of stretch plays and blocking schemes that would look familiar to any mid-1990s Broncos fan, but they've added this "college stuff" [as Rob Ryan calls it] and run most plays out of the pistol -- a formation they've never used before. Also, the Skins now run far more play-pass than any team in the NFL.
I've been very impressed with Griffin's maturity, work ethic and intelligence. That helps a lot. But they're also running the right scheme for him. I don't really care to assign percentages to this person or that. Suffice to say all involved are doing a bang-up job. This is the first year of this offense and really nobody has any experience running it at the pro level. It's quite remarkable it is doing so well, so fast.
