View Full Version : The 5th Quarter: The good, bad & ugly of the loss in St. Louis

IT WAS OVER WHEN...

WR Josh Morgan, stopped just short of a first down, reacted to a late hit by Rams CB Courtland Finnegan by throwing the ball at Finnegan. The refs caught the second guy, of course, and called a 15-yard penalty on Washington. It turned a 4th and1 with a 47 yard field goal attempt coming up into a 4th and 16 and a 62 yard field goal attempt.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING...

The Redskins won the turnover battle, scored more touchdowns and were perfect in red zone efficiency -- and they still lost the game.

Secondary has been a concern since preseason. Unfortunately, the bad secondary play gave a lot of game tape for other teams.

Failed to get pressure on bradford in the 2nd half really, but that was the worst refereed game i have ever seen in 43 years watching the redskins! maybe the worst ever called game at any level i have ever seen, included pee wee and flag football league!

Refereeing was bad for both sides. My big concern was not the Refs but how bad our secondary was. They were awful.

The play of the defense was awful but so was the choice to play so much soft zone. They made no attempt to redirect or press Amendola at all. He had his way with our D and they were powerless to stop him. The defense has now given up over 30 points in 6 of the last 7 games. Only our last victory over the Giants was under 30+.

Even scoring 4 TD's a game isn't going to win many when giving up 30+ routinely.

And no pass rush, because, as I have said all along, Orakpo and Kerrigan are not elite speed rushers you need in a 3-4, like a Clay Matthews.

and that is just being nice cause they are way worse than awful! i can't find a word that describes how bad they are!

Refs were bad, but they didn't drop the deep pass (Robinson) or lose their cool on a crucial 4th down (Morgan) or let Danny Amendola run free through a soft serve zone coverage.

Refs were not as bad as the Redskins Defense, enough said.

Refs, yeah but when you stink you stink. Also, the coaching left much to be desired I thought. Like what in heck made Shanahan think a 62 yd FG was better than letting RG3 try and convert? His chances of completing something have to be better than a 62 yarder.

On a positive note our offense is humming right now. A bad note our defense is sucking, i think our defense is alot better than they are showing. Haslett is not putting them in position to be successful, i mean they are calling the defense with our guys 15 yds away. Its ridiculous, i could have completed passes against our defense.

Also the refs really sucked and screwed us on that coaches challenge on the turnover we caused on the goal line stand. That should have been a booth review but they werent going to review it as we were already lined up before the coach challenged. That should have been a 15 yd penalty against STL for challenging a non challengable play.

Redskins Offense can play with anybody, but it sucks when you have to score 30 points a game cause the Defense is so awful! I get nervous when griffin takes off running cause we are dead in the water without him! I Don'y see how the shannys look him in the eye when he has to play behind such an awful line either!

I don't know about humming....they only scored 21 points against the Rams. Robinson dropped a deep ball, that's about the only point I recall them leaving on the field against the Rams, other than that 4th quarter FG attempt of 62 yards. It was a definite drop off from NO. RGIII barely had 200 yards passing against STL.

Better get used to that this season. It's going to be the rule and not the exception.

For Redskins of the past 10 years, yes this is humming! LOL. When you are accustomed to a max of 10 points a game.

Too bad we couldn't combine the defensive play last year with the offensive production this year. Dammit

the D played a bit better last year, but aside from their ranking they were not very good and other teams ran the clock down with the big leads they had . . . i remember them as a D that couldn't get a big stop no matter what . . . we do need the D to step up . . . Or we need to score a ton, if we do it will make for some very exciting games anyway!!
