Mike Shanahan confirmed a meeting on Thursday between Redskins and Chris Cooley. No contract yet.

There have been reports Cooley may return to the Redskins, but he says he still wants to start in the NFL and that won't happen as long as Fred Davis is around. Frankly, I don't see him starting on a decent NFL team and I can't see him getting really good money under any circumstances. If Cooley wants to continue his NFL career I think he will have to adjust his ambitions accordingly.

i want him here because i don't have a jersey from any current Skin except Orakpo and it is not authentic like my cooley, portis and campbell jersey's were . . . lol . . . i still think he could add to the passing game and a little as a backup fullback . . . but at what cost?? (who gets the boot??)

I Love cooley, but they really don't need him now.i would rather see us sign another olinemen that can gives us depth instead of another tight end.if somebody like paul gets hurt,i got no problem with him coming back.

True. Not real concerned about OLine depth right now. More concerned about secondary

i'll wait and see how the secondary does this week after playing against a qb that is nowhere nearly as talented a breese is.

I love Cooley and what he meant to this franchise. However, I just don't see the point. I would rather keep Paul learning and love Paulsen's blocking and ability to make a big first down catch each game.

I Could live with grossman getting cut and resigning cooley, especially when you look at how little the te position has done for the skins in the 1st two games.

you may be right . . . where has fred davis been?? the league must have made a mistake when they drug tested Davis . . . i mean are stoners usually lazy and lackadaisical?? He looks FAR more stoned this year than he did last!!
+ Cooley is a bit of a better blocker than Davis . . . not much, but a bit . . . and maybe he would push Davis to play better . . .

Davis is a total bust so far.maybe we should trade him for decent DB or safety, and sign cooley back while he has some trade value. all i know is he is not the player he has been the last two seasons.

that's true . . . but secondary players, especially CB's are far more valued than TE's . . .

hmmm . . . interesting anyway . . . i'm not sold on Freeney yet as he hasn't played, due to injury at LB yet, but is a damn good pass rusher . . . banks is a throw in for sure . . . both Freeney and Davis are in the last year of their contract . . . Cooley could be brought back . . . why not give it a shot??

Jeez,i'm scared! we almost never agree! lol
I Don't know if Shanny would ever agree to it,But i would cut banks and grossman, resign cooley, and i'll catch hell for even thinking this, sign vince young to run the wild cat as long as he never passes! Kinda like the steelers used kordell stewart! It would prevent rg3 from running as much as he does so there would be less chance of him getting hurt! It scares the hell out of me when he takes off like he does!

while i do get concerned with RGIII running and the possibility of getting injured, that's one of the reasons we drafted him was he had the ability to do that . . . it will hold defenses honest and is one of the reasons Morris is getting as much room as he has been and partially why RGIII has completed more than 70% of his passes and has a QB rating of over 111 . . . definitely an exciting player to watch, which means the skins will get more national TV and more highlights (and new fans) . . .
More QB's get injured in the pocket than anyone ever did running the ball. It's much more dangerous to be a stationary target in the pocket with guys weighing 100 lbs more than you charging at your head, midsection and knees if you ask me. But don't ask me, ask Tom Brady, Carson Palmer, Randall Cunningham and every other passer who ever took one in the knee standing tall in the pocket. I'd rather take my chances with RGIII outside the pocket against DB's than in the pocket with LB's and DL.

I think part of the Davis 'problem' is a comfort level between a TE and a rookie QB. Again, just like Haslett, befor4e throwing people aside who had had success here, like Davis, let's give the relationship a chance to grow. Again, unless an injury occurs, I am good with David, Paul, and Paulsen

k . . . i'll give him sometime . . . don't have much of a choice as he is the started TE for the Skins . . . BUT, what happened to TE's being a rookie QB's best friend?? Where is Davis around the red zone?? Davis, with his size and athleticism should be a dominant TE, not an average run of the mill one . . . i personally think Paulsen is a better route runner and pass catcher than Davis . . .
Fred Davis is now the leading receiver of the team after 3 weeks, FYI........... in catches & yards.

Good to see Davis finally brought into this offense. We saw almost nothing of him in the preseason and the first two weeks of the regular season. He's easily the team's most reliable receiver, particularly with Garcon injured.
Cooley has confirmed through an interview that he is only going to sign for a starting job and starting money with another team, which confirms what Shanahan said when he was released. I know some fans of Cooley didn't buy that argument, but it was accurate when reported. Given that the other 31 teams have declined to meet those requirements at this point in time, it appears that the Skins evaluation of Cooley was accurate.

They are'nt gonna sign him unless they have a major injury at tight end.
