Thanks Spence!!! :) it sure must be nice to write these articles after a game like yesterday . . . sure hope we have lots more moments of fun and optimism for a long long time!!
There is no way the team we saw play yesterday loses 9 games this year. Play at that level and we will be relevant in December for playoff talk. 3-0 on the turnover margin and score 40 points? That's going to win a lot of games.

lets just hope they can keep it up . . . they had a long time to game plan for this game . . . now only a week to game plan for the next opponent and they seem to give the Skins fits no matter how bad they are . . . AND they look much improved to me this year as they are much healthier and far better coached than last year . . .
Yeah, now we see what they will do with minimal time to game plan for an opponent, plus, STL now has film to use to prep their defense for what they will see, an advantage NO did not have.

it will be interesting to see what the gameplan for game 2 is like . . . hopefully creative and well balanced and let RGIII be RGIII!!!

I also hope we didn't see all the new wrinkles in this one game. Keep something in reserve for future opponents.

I agree, but how often will the Redskins look like that? Everyone was feeling pretty good after we beat the Giants by two touchdowns in last year's season opener. Rest of the season didn't go so well. To be sure, beating the Saints in New Orleans is a more impressive victory, but considering the history of the Redskins, I need to see more data before I let my optimism off the leash it's been on for the last 20 years.

The two victories are completely different, IMO. Rex had an INT in that game and the offense only scored 21 (other 7 came from Kerrigan). Additionally, the Giants are not the same level team, their playoff run not withstanding. Redskins scoring 40 against the Saints and still left points on the field.
If they play like they did against the Saints, they will win 9 games at a minimum. The question is can they duplicate it (as far as points scored and TO margin) and keep improving?

I don't really disagree with that. I think the Giants had a better defense in 2011 than the Saints had last week, but otherwise, as I wrote above, I think the win over New Orleans is more impressive. It is just that this is the third time the Redskins have opened the season with a win under Mike Shanahan. They're quite good at winning game one. It's the other 15 games they have a problem with. What happens when the offensive line suffers an injury? This team is deeper and better than in recent years, in my opinion, but I can't assume the Skins are going to play every week the way they did against the Saints. Fans of the Patriots and Ravens can walk around with that kind of confidence. I can't. I gotta see more.

I think this next game will say alot more about the team than the 1st week. When you have all offseason to gameplan for a team that is one thing but a few days for your next opponent is another. But our gameplan in week 1 was nothing short of brilliant. Every possession the offense was different. 1st possession was all screen, 2nd was the pass to garcon, then pistol formation with the read option, then shotgun with the read option. I was in awe of the offensive game plan and the execution was awesome as well.
Spence i agree that we have to temper our emotions until we know what kind of team this is going to be especially given our history of looking like world beaters then just dying later in the year. But we do have something those other teams didnt have. A FREAKING QB!

The bolded part is what i believe to be the difference as well . . . if RGIII continues to play at the level he played even this season could be a LOT of fun to watch!! i can't imagine him playing that well everygame though, but i do believe he has the talent and the work ethic to be one of the best . . .
I think we will learn a lot about the 2012 Redskins when they play the Rams this weekend. This is the type of game recent Skin teams' find a way to lose. Need to back-up a great game with another strong game against a weaker opponent. The Rams are a better team now with Fisher, but Washington is the better team of the two. To be taken seriously, they have to win this game in my opinion.
