so to sum up . . . good offense . . . bad defense!! . . . lol . . . opposite of what we have had for years . . . i was wondering what our defense would look like when teams have to score on us?? i seemed, even when we had a top 10 ranked defense that we could never stop anyone when they needed to score . . . seems to be the same now, just that teams need to score more often because the Redskins are . . .

If we could actually stop fumbling the ball our offense would be even better. Seems like we always fumble at the worst possible time. We lucked out this week that the player couldnt quite recover in time(could have gone either way).

I think our defense would actually be better if we switched to a 4-3 defense as right now they suck so bad! A lot has to do with our safeties not able to make up ground and just flat out in the wrong positions like every play. lol

I'm baffled by Washington's problems on third down on offense. They should be good, but they are not. I can't figure out why and nobody I talk to about it has any good ideas.

No mystery why the Skins are bad on third down on defense: They don't have much talent rushing the passer or covering receivers.

i thought i read somewhere that we are very good from 3rd and 5 or less . . . but we are just bad at 3rd and 6 or more . . . just with boneheaded penalties, sacks and bad 1st and 2nd downs we face 3rd and long more often than 3rd and short . . . thoughts?

Well, almost every team is much better from third and short than from third and long. On third and short teams must respect the run and, with the Redskins, they must respect RG3's legs. I was hoping that the addition of a big receiver like Garcon, if he can stay healthy, would fix that problem. I guess I'm still hoping that Garcon will help solve our third down problems because no other solution is presenting itself to me.

right, but i thought the numbers were unusually off . . . like 80% for one and 5% for the other . . . some crazy difference . . . the reason the article brought it up was to point out how different we were from other teams . . . i think having Davis and Garcon would make a difference . . . hopefully next year we can find that BIG, sober, fast TE!!

individual breakdowns. The failed option toss against the Ravens on Sunday illustrates this perfectly. The play call was excellent, the blocking assignments were correct and executed, yet the play lost 10 yards or so because of one breakdown, a bad toss to FreMo by RGIII.

that was 3rd and very short . . . just run there, no need for the pitch . . .

They had the dive to Young covered well, which is why I thought the move to Morris on the outside was good. I think he would have went for 10 yards with a good pitch. To me it is all about execution. RGIII read the play well, pulling it back from Young, just a bad pitch.

yeah . . . but morris from 3rd and 1 or 3rd and 2 is just about automatic . . . just hand him the ball, especially when its raining . . .

The pitch was the perfect call there. Noone saw it coming. Just a bad pitch, if a good pitch that went for a lot of yards.

:) . . . i guess we'll have to agree to disagree . . . IMO, 3rd and short in the rain is a handoff, not a pitch . . . the ball is slippery in the rain . . .

Personally I would have called a dive play, but everyone knew that it was coming which is why the pitch play was the perfect call. Noone saw it coming. And if executed properly would have gotten around 20 yards.
