I had Barnes making the team. Does this mean Thompson is in? I as not that impressed with C Griffin.
Conditional 7th round pick if he makes the Detroit roster, might be 6th rounder if he plays a certain percentage of snaps. Crawford had passed Thompson on the depth chart, so he was a virtual lock to make the team before this move. This trade is good news for Thompson more than anyone.

i assume that means 5 CB's . . . Wilson, Hall, Griffin, Thompson and Crawford ???

i assume that means 5 CB's . . . Wilson, Hall, Griffin, Thompson and Crawford ??? Travon Bellmay and David Jones are the other two CBs. I assume they go with 5. If they go six, then Jones could be the winner. I think this staff likes Thompson. He kept being resigned last year several times and is still here.
Griffin has not impressed me this preseason at CB. If they go 9 DB's and only 4 CB's, I would keep Hall, Wilson, Crawford and Thompson. I would keep Jones over Griffin. Can't see 6 CB's as I especially think they will keep 5 safeties.
Just announced by the team and on twitter.
This was a move the team had to make. Too much talent would have been sacrificed to keep him on the roster. Thank him for what he accomplished but this is the nature of the game. Team over individuals.

It is sad to see a long time, dedicated veteran like this leave, but it always happens. The upgrade in the roster made it so. Personally, I set my mind of this day when the redskins announced the conversion of Niles Paul to TE. That was the first signal.

Agree. It is interesting to note that it appears, based on what was said, that Cooley chose latching on elsewhere rather than staying in DC, mentioned that he wants to be a starter somewhere.
Whatever you think of Cooley, this is the type of move the Steeler, Ravens and Patriots make with regularity. No conscience, done for the better of the TEAM, separate from the emtions. Big boy move and a sign that the right people are making the decisions.

had to happen, and it shows the skins FO is not gonna resist making the hard moves. i would not be shocked if cooley signs with the jets.
chris cooley will always be a true redskin in my heart though.

It is sad but because of the crappy line they needed to keep Paulsen to block the runway DEs.
He is the best of the last 10 years and I was hoping to see him play but the cuts needed to happen somewhere and I wish him the best. Hopefully not in the East.

Man i watched his presser after getting released. Hated watching that! I was about to break down watching him.
I know it had to happen with his current rate of pay and what he brings to the table now. They dont mesh anymore so it had to be done, just sad to see him talking about the Redskins and about to break down.
If you play long enough in this league, you will eventually get released, it's just the way it works. Ask Peyton Manning. Time doesn't stop for anyone. Let's not mourn the fact he is gone, let's celebrate that he was here.
I don't know about you, but on Sunday's, I'm not going to sit around saying "I wish Cooley were still with the team". It's about the team and about winning.

probably one of the top 10 greatest redskins ever in terms of fan favorite.love to see him come back as a redskins coach or scout,or even as a tight end at a lower salary.skins i think did this because of salary cap reasons.

You don't think it has anything to do with the fact that he was no better than the 3rd best TE on the team? Athletically, after 9 years in the league, he was no match for Davis and Paul. Problem with the fans and the release of Cooley is that too many people still think he is the TE that scored 3 TD's against Dallass in 2005. That was 7 years and many miles ago. The real fact is that Cooley scored 6 TD's over the last 4 years. That's not enough production.

Was the timing disrespectful to Cooley. I suspect Shanahan kept him until now just in case someone was injured or some other "mistake" by one of the TE. As a Thank You for all he has done for the Redskins, he would have been better served if the Redskins had cut him back in June. My 2 Cents.

Hearing the crowd yell "Cooooooley" was the highlight of some games!
Here's to better things to be cheering about!!!
I loved him to. Hopefully he returns or goes to the booth. Might be a better play by play than Larry.
