Washington City Paper will no longer use the term Redskins, but refer to the football teams as the Washington Pigskins.

i don't like it . . . the Redskins name has been with the team for a long time and the indian communities themselves don't have a problem with the name then i don't either . . .

Not a fan of that name. Unlike most of you, I guess, I'm not a fan of the name Redskins and would like to see it changed. Not sure media outlets should be jumping the gun like that, though. The name is Redskins so I think they should call the team the Redskins.

If it were up to me, the team name would be changed to Warlords. The Washington Warlords has a good ring to it. Consistent with the city's history of great warlord presidents like Washington, Lincoln, both Roosevelts and Eisenhower. Gets rid of a troublesome name and replaces it with a kickass name. Two syllables so it fits the "Hail to the Redskins" song perfectly. Just replace "Redskins" with "Warlords" and replace "Braves on the Warpath" with "We're on the Warpath." Then ditch the Indian head as a symbol and replace it with the simple spear from the team's days of yore. The spear is an international symbol for war, not exclusive to Amerindians. This is what I'm talking about:

So you are saying that you have never thought of a name change? lol

Yeah, sorta seems like I've given it some thought, eh? I think a name change is inevitable and I'd like to see it done right. It's not like I lay awake every night fretting over the name Redskins. Never lost a moment of sleep over it, but if it is going to change -- and I'm pretty sure it will, one day -- I'd like it to change to something cool.

I'll be physically ill if the name is changed to something like the Washington Representatives or some crap like that.

Sounds like total crap to me! This team has been the redskins 80 years, they had plenty of time to change the name, but did'nt! I Hope they will always be the redskins! i think this news service is looking for publicity more than anything else!

I think most Redskins fans agree with you, but there are some, like me, who'd like to see it changed. Charles Mann, for one, has come out in favor of a change. Maybe there is a list of players who have taken a position one way or another.

I'm with Crazy Horse on this one . . . why now?? i have talked to a lot of native americans that are fans of the Redskins because of the name . . . to them the term "Redskin" simply means great warrior, nothing derogatory . . . keep the name the same!! :)

As someone who is of Native American descent myself I am not bothered at all by the name. I don't think it was chosen to insult us but as a tribute really. What team in the NFL or any other sport ever picked a name to insult or demean someone? The only thing that really bothers me is that in the Snyder era it has become a synonym for futility. That has GOT to change.

I Think it is more of a tribute than it is racist saying. If you go back and read the history of the native americans, nobody was smarter than they were and nobody came close to being the warriors they were.they were only beaten because the white people had technology on their side and greater numbers.I Have a lot more respect for native americans than i ever will eurpoean americans because of the respect they have for life ,land and the environment.
