"Robert Griffin III went to the locker room during Sunday's 24-17 loss to the Atlanta Falcons to take concussion tests. So how did the Washington Redskins announce his injury?

They officially said their rookie quarterback was "shaken up" and questionable to return to the game. They never updated his status. That characterization could land the Redskins in hot water.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello confirmed to NFL.com and NFL Network that the league is looking into if the Redskins followed league rules that require teams be accurate and timely in reporting injury information.
We also have an issue with how Redskins coach Mike Shanahan characterized Griffin's injury after the game.

"When he really wasn't sure what quarter it was, what score it was, we knew he had a mild concussion, at least according to the doctors," Shanahan said. "(He) feels good right now, a lot better right now. But that was the situation why he didn't go back into the game."

It's time to kill the term "mild concussion." It's only mild if someone else suffers it. Apart from being medically inaccurate, the term downplays the severity of suffering a concussion. It's basically an update of the outdated terms "bell rung" or "shaken up."

Who cares. The NFL has more to do than something like this. It isn't like they allowed RGIII back in the game.

I get the whole "no such thing as a 'mild' concussion" thing, but there has to be varying degrees when describing the injury. He wasn't knocked unconscious for any period of time.

Like Mark said, he didn't come back into the game, I don't see the big deal.

yeah . . . i understand this though as the NFL is having to be extremely cautious with concussions and the skins didn't follow the NFL's procedures . . . i could care less, even if the team is fined . . .

I think it probably shows the NFL is on high alert whenever there is a report of a concussion.

yeah . . . and for good reason as there has been a lot of media discussion around concussions . . . no matter how mild one might see the last thing the NFL wants is a serious injury due to a player playing before he is ready . . .

actually i am all for the NFL ensuring teams are following proper protocol, especially when it comes to player safety . . . if they don't push these types of things coaches and teams will "deviate" when deemed necessary and that could end ugly . . .

The problem CH is called "legal liability". The NFL is running scared because of the lawsuits it is already facing from former players over injuries. They have to be very careful or they are on the hook for a lot of money in damages. They don't have options anymore.
