TAMPA, Fla. | Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather and receiver Aldrick Robinson left the field after colliding during warm-ups Sunday little more than two hours before kickoff against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Meriweather’s left knee hit Robinson in the head as Robinson bent over to pick up a ball in the end zone, according to people who were on the field at the time of the incident.
Meriweather missed the first three games of the season with a left knee sprain. He was listed on Friday’s injury report as probable.
Robinson stayed prone for minutes after the collision as medical personnel and members of the training staff tended to him. He obviously was shaken up as he walked slowly off the field.
This beyond bizarre.

That's putting it mildly. Who does this, but the Redskins?

On another subject, the Niners are crushing the Jets 34-0. The back pages of the NY Post and NY Daily News are going to be hilarious tomorrow morning. Teblow has been in the game, but done nothing. Niners defense is too good and too smart to fall for Tebow's schtick.

Rams won at home over the Seahawks. Now looks like the Redskins loss in St. Louis wasn't as bad as first thought. I mean, the defense and defensive game plan were terrible, but the Rams appear to be better than people thought.
Also, no way would the Rams get away with their defensive game plan if the real refs had played. They knew that, though, and took advantage of the replacement refs and the Redskins. Washington game-planned as if the refs were not an issue, which was a huge mistake

Buccaneers will get the ball first.
Spence
09-30-2012, 04:30 PM
Madieu Williams made a nice break on that pass to Vincent Jackson to break it up. Josh Freeman should have thrown the ball earlier.

Nice hit on Freeman by DeAngelo Hall. Totally legal and clean.

Redskins offense didn't look ready at all on that first series. No blocking on the run play, RG3 never really had time to look down the field on second down. Third down was just a straight screen pass where you hope the defense misses a tackle, but they didn't.
The Giants put up a ton of points and yards on the Bucs. Let's see what we can do. Giants are better than us, that's for sure.
Spence
09-30-2012, 04:40 PM
Rob Jackson played the reverse perfectly, he just wasn't athletic enough to make the tackle
Spence
09-30-2012, 04:42 PM
Holding saves the Redskins on that long run by Doug Martin, but the Skins better wake up. They're in a football game right now, but they don't seem to know it.
Spence
09-30-2012, 04:43 PM
Madieu Williams flying around and making a lot of plays so far.

Redskins pissing away timeouts early again. Sigh.

Cundiff needs to make a 41-yard field goal in perfect weather.

That RG3 play is so tough to defend in the red zone. Easy to say the defense should have a guy or two spying on him. Of course they should. They should also have everyone else covered. Problem is, the defense can't do both of those things unless they change the rules and let him have more than 11 guys on the field.

No doubt about that. Considering the way the defense has given up big plays in the passing game this year, few leads can be considered safe. No first half lead can be considered safe. Skins need to keep scoring and acting like it is a one score game on offense.

Crap, how can we get Tampa's kicker? Sweet Jeebus, he's knocking the hell outta the ball. If he'd missed that the Skins would have had the ball at almost midfield. Schiano didn't even hesitate to send him in. I'd never have done it. Guess I don't know Connor Barth as well as Schiano does. Man, what a kicker. Their punter is knocking the stitching off the ball, too.
Spence

1:55 left in the first half and two timeouts. Let's see if we can get some business done here.
Spence
09-30-2012, 05:54 PM
Can't really argue with what the Skins did there. Looks like they were going to try to get some points, but the four yard loss on the first down screen blew up that plan.
Now, we just have to hope we don't get the punt blocked.
Spence
09-30-2012, 05:56 PM
BTW, I love how Darrel Young is playing today. Dude is really running hard, punishing tacklers. Love his nasty game.
Spence
09-30-2012, 06:27 PM
That clip on Will Montgomery destroyed what sure looked like a scoring drive. RG3 looks great in and out of the pocket.
After the punt and the holding on the Bucs, Tampa is pinned inside their own 10. If the defense can get a quick stop the offense can get the ball back in good field position and hopefully put this game away.

and looking good as a reciever out of the backfield . . . so far, at least, against a bad offense the Skins "D" is looking pretty decent . . .
Spence
09-30-2012, 06:32 PM
Great, got the stop. Well done, defense. Tampa has to punt from their 29. Let's do something here.
Spence
09-30-2012, 06:34 PM
Good Lord, that Tampa punter is the best I've ever seen. At least, today he is. There's no way to steal field position off a defensive stop because the punter just crushes the ball. I love Tampa's two kickers. Nothing else they've done impresses me today.
Skins started first drive of the second half at the 11 yard line. They'll start this one at the 9 yard line. No turnovers, guys.
Spence
09-30-2012, 06:36 PM
What the hell happened on that safety or no safety? What kind of play was that? Did they actually call such a play or did RG3 just screw it up somehow? That was absolutely insane.

09-30-2012, 06:43 PM
That was an asinine play by Garcon!!
Spence
09-30-2012, 06:44 PM
These 15 yard penalty have destroyed both second half drives. Really, really stupid stuff. Dunno what to say about Montgomery's clip and Garcon's cheap shot. They're keeping the Skins from blowing this game open.

At least the Skins have looked better on blocking for punts!! . . . and with a little help from TB the punt coverage has been good . . .
Spence
09-30-2012, 06:47 PM
See, a big play by Tampa's offense was inevitable, particularly with our secondary. That's why these drive-destroying penalties are so damaging.
Spence
09-30-2012, 06:50 PM
Skins starting to melt down here a bit. The defense can hold them here. Tampa MUST go for the TD.
Spence
09-30-2012, 06:54 PM
Now, it gets interesting. Redskins have had a glass jaw for years. We'll see how they respond to this.
Spence
09-30-2012, 07:08 PM
I hope they still have phone numbers for Neil Rackers and Graham Gano.
jporterweb
09-30-2012, 07:11 PM
Cundiff is pathetic. I'm cool with the 60+ yarder last week and even the 57 yarder today. But the other two? It's time to crawl to Gano's door and bring him back with a raise.
Spence
09-30-2012, 07:12 PM
Again, all this is inevitable. Our kicker has missed two field goals he should make and we had two very promising second half drives destroyed by personal foul penalties. Of course the Bucs are going to complete long passes on us. Everyone does. That's why you have to keep scoring. That's why you can't waste any scoring opportunities.
Spence
09-30-2012, 07:13 PM
Poor DeAngelo. He's just getting killed in single coverage against Vincent Jackson. No reason why anyone should expect him to stay with a good wideout like that.
Spence
09-30-2012, 07:15 PM
I love the way our offense drove down the field on that last drive. Too bad the kicker just couldn't do anything with a chip shot field goal attempt. Let's see the offense do it again, only finish this time. If our offense doesn't commit a personal foul penalty, I don't think the Bucs defense can stop our offense. But we have to score touchdowns because we can't trust the kicker again
Spence
09-30-2012, 07:18 PM
A field goal beats us. offense must get some points.
jporterweb
09-30-2012, 07:19 PM
This team has been good at scoring for the most part this year. The problem is the defense is hurting. The injuries have piled way to high for this early in the season and for some stupid reason we decided to sign the kicker that missed a chance to put his team past the Patriots.
Spence
09-30-2012, 07:24 PM
Terrible punt by Rocca. Dunno what the Skins do here. Tampa should just keep throwing deep because it should work. Offense has got to score points if/when they get the ball back. Not sure how much the defense has got left in the tank. We need Tampa to make a mistake here. I think the Skins are still doing very well against the run, but the long pass is going to get us.
Spence
09-30-2012, 07:25 PM
Looks like the Bucs will keep passing, which is the smart thing to do. Went after our rookie CB - Crawford - on that play.
Spence
09-30-2012, 07:27 PM
Huge play by Ryan Kerrigan on that screen. Terrible call by the Bucs. Why not throw downfield, where you've had nothing but success since halftime?

09-30-2012, 07:28 PM
The Redskins are falling apart again in the 2nd half thanks to 3 missed fgs by cundiff and yes,you guessed it,awful DEFENSE!
Spence
09-30-2012, 07:31 PM
Skins have to punt here. I don't see this going well if the Redskins punt. I think I'd go for it. Under 4 minutes to play. We punt, I think the Bucs score to win and we get the ball back with little time to do anything.
I might go for it here.
Spence
09-30-2012, 07:32 PM
Maybe this challenge will work, but I doubt it. Those yard spotting challenges never work. We just lost a timeout which we will probably need after Tampa takes the lead.
Spence
09-30-2012, 07:35 PM
Hard to see the Redskins winning this game now without some big goof by Tampa.

Spence
09-30-2012, 07:38 PM
Tampa at our 34. They should just run 3 times because Barth can hit a field goal from there easily and they have the lead with almost no time on the clock.
Spence
09-30-2012, 07:41 PM
Don't like admitting this, but Tampa deserves to win this game. Their defense has been pushed all over the place, but it hasn't given up huge passing plays. Their offense looked terrible in the first half, but they have done well in the second and refused to make the killing mistakes that Montgomery and Garcon made.
jporterweb
09-30-2012, 07:43 PM
Wilson was soooo close on that.. dang it.
Spence
09-30-2012, 07:44 PM
Skins will have 1 timeout and about 1:40 to get into field goal position. Probably starting from the 20 or worse. Let's see what RG3 can do. He gave it a helluva an effort last week pretty much by himself.
Spence
09-30-2012, 07:44 PM
Now, THAT is a kicker.
Spence
09-30-2012, 07:45 PM
Problem for the Skins is, they have to score a TD in very little time or trust Billy Cundiff to hit any sort of field goal. I don't like those odds. They need to play for a touchdown.
