Caps win preseason opener against Winnipeg
The Washington Capitals won their exhibition opener, with a 4-3 shootout win over the Winnipeg Jets. Mike Green tallied in the shootout on the Caps fourth round while goalie Phillip Grubauer went 4 for 4 int he shootout to preserve the preseason opener for the Capitals.
Defenseman Jack Hillen and forward Troy Brouwer and Stanislav Galiev scored in regulation for the Caps.
Braden Holtby started the game in net for the Caps and was relived midway through the second period by Grubauer. Grubauer went on to save on 25 shots on net and four shootout rounds to play heroics in net for the Caps.
Alex Ovechkin briefly left the game in the first period after taking a high stick tot he face. he receiver a few stitches in his lip.
