Caps’ John Carlson named to USA Olympic Team

Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson has been selected to Team USA for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

The 23 year-old defenseman will be making his be first Olympic appearance. Carlson is tied for fifth among NHL defensemen with seven goals this season and leads the Caps with 83 blocked shots. He also leads all Caps on average ice time with 24:10. Carlson is second only to Alexander Ovechkin in shots on goal with 107. The young defenseman has appeared in 274 career NHL games with the Caps and has scored 112 points with 30 goals and 82 assists.
