About

DC Pro Sports Report has been covering the Washington, DC pro sports scene, mainly, the Washington Redskins, Washington Capitals, Washington Wizards, and Washington Nationals for 6 years.  DC Pro Sports Report (DCPSR) was created by Mark Buterbaugh [PENNSKINSFAN] and Thomas Threlkeld [SPENCE], an offshoot of the former hailRedskins.com.   Looking to branch out beyond just Washington Redskins coverage, DC Pro Sports Report was the latest blog brainchild of Mark and Tom.   Mark and Tom are also the original creators of the Internet’s very first NFL Mock Draft Database at hailRedskins.com.  The NFL Mock Draft Database followed Mark and Tom to DCPSR after they left the Redskins website.

Now in it’s 12th NFL Draft, the Database is still the most popular and most updated you will find anywhere on the Web.  You mat run into several mock draft databases out there, but they were all inspired by the very first to show up on the Web 12 years ago.  From there, Mark and Tom branched out and created three more Databases:  the NBA Mock Database, the NHL Mock Database, and the MLB Mock Database.    Much like the NFL Mock Database, all three of these were the first to appear on the Web anywhere, the NBA now being in it’s 6th year, the NHL and MLB being in their 4th years.   They are the premier sources of mock drafts in all four major drafts, anywhere on the web.  They are also the Official Mock Databases of the FanSided Network.

The Databases have been feature in the Washington Post, Washington Times, NBC Channel 4 new in Washington, DC, the Dallas Morning News, Yahoo Sports, USA Today, ESPN, and the St. Louis Dispatch.  They are nationally recognized and often covered.

Mark Buterbaugh, Co-Founder/Owner -  Mark has been covering the Washington Redskins in a blog based environment for nearly 10 years.  He started a small Yahoo Geocities website titled Mark’s Redskins Net, completely devoted to the Washington Redskins franchise, informative, but non-interactive. Mark’s Redskins Net eventually became the former Redskins Central and grew in content and design. Eventually a merger occurred between Redskins Central and RedskinsHQ which is where Mark met Thomas.  Thomas was a Forum Moderator at Redskins HQ.   Redskins HQ eventually became the current hailRedskins.com in 2002, with Mark and Tom as the original creators.  After a few years, Mark and Tom decided to branch out beyond just Washington Redskins coverage and created the current DCPSR along with the full Mock Draft Databases.

Mark worked in State Politics in Pennsylvania for 15 years.  He is a 1992 graduate of Penn State University.  Years later, still not educationally satisfied, Mark obtained a Law Degree in 2009 from Widener University School of Law.  Mark is an Attorney for Post & Schell, P.C..    Mark converted his wife and son to full fledged Washington Redskins and Capitals fans.

Thomas Threlkeld, Co-Founder/Owner – Has been writing about the Redskins online since 2002 and started writing about the Wizards soon after that. He was born in Washington, D.C. and grew up in the area, eventually graduating from George Washington University Law School. He works in D.C. and writes principally about the Redskins and the Wizards. In addition to being a guest on various terrestrial and internet radio stations to discuss the Redskins and the NFL Draft, Thomas has appeared multiple times on NewsChannel 8 television in Washington, D.C. [seen below] to discuss the Redskins, football and college sports.

Tom Blaz, Writer – Tom has covered professional and college sports teams in the Washington, D.C. area for many years. While Tom was handling sports at ABC Radio, WMAL was often honored by the Associated Press for “Best Year Round Sports Coverage” in the Baltimore/DC metro for major market radio.

A veteran of the DC Sports scene, Blaz was a Washington Redskins beat reporter from the end of the Jack Kent Cook era through the return of Joe Gibbs and also served as beat reporter for the Maryland Terrapins men’s basketball team for ten seasons including a pair of Final Fours and a National Championship. He covered the Washington Wizards during the Michael Jordan era and the three playoff seasons from 2004-2007. Tom covered the Cal Ripken Jr. streak, the relocation of the Montreal Expos to Washington and stadium negotiations with Major League Baseball and the D.C. government.

Tom covered the Olympics in Seoul, Barcelona and Atlanta and he owns and operates The Recruiting Eagle, the oldest independent football recruiting website on the Internet. Tom attended Auburn University during the Charles Barkley and Bo Jackson eras and the eldest of his three children is a student there now.  [College football fans should be checking The Recruiting Eagle on a regular basis.]

Outside of sports, Tom reported live from the Pentagon on September 11, 2001 and the days following that terror attack and served as campaign manager for a four-term U.S. Congressman.

Jacob Ware, Writer - Jacob was born in 1995 in Veghel, Holland and has since lived in Russia and Belgium before moving with his family to America in 2006. His father is from England and his mother is a Swede, spurring his interest in ice hockey. He claims he’s never really known where he himself is from.  He has played ice and roller hockey his whole life and is a long-term Capitals fan and season-ticket holder. His favorite Washington athletes are Marcus Johansson and Danny Espinosa. He is fluent in four languages and attends the Washington International School. He has long wanted to blog and is excited to join the DC Pro Sports Report team.  You can see his first post below and reach him on twitter at @jacobware95.

Kiel Maddox, Writer – Kiel has been following the Washington D.C sports scene since 1994 and recently started writing about it in 2008. Currently he studies at George Mason University and is a Redskins season ticket holder in section 450.
