The Washington Post is reporting that barring any further problems this week, DT Albert Haynesworth will be active and play this Sunday night against the Dallas Cowboys.
Redskins source: Barring any problems (what could happen?) Albert Haynesworth will be active and play against Cowboys. http://wapo.st/dwuJ6b
Haynesworth was said to be upset again because he was forced to play ten entire final preseason game. Information leaked out that there was a possibility that Haynesworth could be inactive for the season opener this coming Sunday. However, barring any additional problems, that will it be the case.
What is left to see is how much Haynesworth plays. If I am a betting man, I would hedge bets that Haynesworth is not part of the starting rotation. The Redskins carried three nose tackles, Haynesworth being one of those three, joining likely starter Maake Kemoeatu and reserve Anthony Bryant. Additionally, a thing to keep an eye on is whether the off-season and preseason ongoing feud between Haynesworth and Redskins coach Mike Shanahan continues into the regular season.
The feud began with Haynesworth voicing opposition to and disappointment in the Redskins switch to the 3-4 defense and his role as a nose tackle. That disappointment evolved into Haynesworth not showing up for voluntary off season workouts, drawing then ire of new Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan. Haynesworth did report on time to training camp but failed the fitness tests twice. That led to Haynesworth’s demotion to backup role. Two week ago, it appeared the feud was over until the final preseason game against Arizona. In that game, the Redskins played Haynesworth the whole game and the Redskins expressed disappointment in Haynesworth’s effort in that game. That led to a renewed feud and to them point we now stand. What feud turn it takes now that the regular season has arrived will be closely watched.
