Caps versus Pens, Winter Classic logos

Via the Washington Post Capitals Insider, the Winter Classic 2011 logos have been released. 

Uniforms won’t be revealed today, it seems, but judging by these logos, we’ll be seeing some throwbacks on Jan. 1

Looks like the Washington Capitalsand Pittsburgh Penguins will be kicking it old school when they square off at Heinz Field on New Year’s Day. Tarik just snapped the above photo on his Blackberry as officials get ready for a noon press conference for the annual outdoor game.

Additional NEWS:  Former Washington Capitals D Brian Pothier is playing in Switzerland.  After the resigning of Joe Corvo, Pohtier seems out with Carolina nad has drawn little interest elsewhere. 

San Jose Sharks website lists a few young players as the next Breakout players in the NHL.  One player listed is caps 2007 first rounder Karl Alzner. 

Alzner, chosen No. 5 in the 2007 Entry Draft, appears to be ready for a full-time role in Washington. He’s not a big-time scorer, but he was a rock on defense for the Bears in their run to a second straight AHL title and is running out of things to prove at the minor-league level.

GM George McPhee said Alzner has shown enough to earn an NHL job — and admitted to the Washington Post that the soon-to-be 22-year-old was good enough to play in the League this past season, but that he didn’t want to tinker with a winning team.
