All things Adam Dunn this morning

In case you missed it or were wondering, Adam Dunn is still a Washington National.  He also seemed like a Milwuakee Brewer this weekened, visiting the radio booth in Milwaukee to say a hello to Bob Uecker.

During Saturday’s game, Nationals first baseman Adam Dunn, who had the day off, went to the radio booth to see Brewers broadcaster Bob Uecker, who to returned to work this weekend after undergoing heart surgery on April 30. The meeting took place in the second inning.

Dunn, who was wearing his baseball uniform, and Uecker have been great friends since Dunn played for the Reds.

“I’ve known the guy for a long time,” Dunn said. “It’s good to see him healthy, having fun and back doing what he loves. It was great.”

Dunn drew a little ire form Nats Manager Jim Riggleman, who wa scaught by surprise when asked about it by the media.

“I wish you wouldn’t have told me that,” Riggleman said while laughing at the same time.

Riggleman declined to comment after that.

The Detroit Tigers now have significant interest in Adam Dunn, joining fellow division rivals Chicago White Sox.  Another report also has the New YorkYankess interested in Dunn.

Reports have surfaced that Andy Pettitte may return sooner than expected and the Yankees have now contacted the Nationals about big-time power hitter Adam Dunn. The Nationals are thought to be asking quite a bit at the moment, we’ll see if that changes over the course of the week.

There is a reason the Nationals are asking for so much, they have some leverage. There has been plenty of interest in Dunn from other teams. It’s been no secret that the Chicago White Sox have been pursuing Dunn for weeks now, and with the loss of Magglio Ordonez for 6-8 weeks with a broken ankle, the Tigers have now joined the bidding for Dunn.

Tracee Hamilton from the Washington Post is a new advocate for keeping Dunn in DC.

One notion that’s been floated — trade Dunn now, sign him back in the offseason, is a non-starter. He’ll be more expensive in the offseason, when every team can bid for his services. And a mercenary move like that would surely kill the loyalty he feels to the franchise.

And he definitely feels that loyalty, at least for now. The one caveat to my “keep him” position is this: If Rizzo is sure that because of the delay in re-signing him, and the incessant trade talk, Dunn has soured on the team, then trade him. If he tests the free agent waters, the undertow of offseason spending will carry him right out of town and on to someone else’s roster. So if Dunn is done in D.C., Rizzo should get what he can.

No doubt Rizzo’s asking price is high, very high.  And, quite frankly, it should stay that way.  Should the Nats choose to deal Dunn, the result should only be SIGNIFICANT help for the Nationals.  Otherwise, ink him to an extension deal.

Dunn is asking for a 4 year extension at approximately $64 million.  The Nationals reportedly are only willing, at leats at this point, to do a 2 year deal.  Not entirely certain why the Nationals are gun shy on a 4 year deal.  Dunn is only 30 and his numbers have improved every year he has been a National.  Who do they think is aiting in the wings at first base?  Chris Marrero is hitting .291 with 12 home runs at Potomac.  Those are not major league numbers at Double A.

The Nationals are also willing to deal closer Matt Capps and OF Josh Willingham.  Capps is the most likely.

UPDATEDESPN’s Jayson Stark reports on a possible three team deal that could involve Adam Dunn.

Rumblings continue to surface about a possible three-team deal involving the Nationals, White Sox and Diamondbacks that would send Edwin Jackson to Washington, Adam Dunn to Chicago and a bunch of young pitchers to Arizona.

We know the Nationals like Jackson and the White Sox like Dunn, so perhaps the D’Backs can facilitate a deal and further stock up on prospects.  Jackson, who is no stranger to three-team deals, has a 5.01 ERA, 7.0 K/9, and 4.0 BB/9 in 20 starts for Arizona.
