Shannon Sharpe speaks for us - from SportsBog/Wash Post
Via Dan Steinberg at The Sports Bog, this photo and exchange from the guys on the CBS show.
James Brown: Redskins VP Vinny Cerrato said he gave head coach Jim Zorn a roster worthy of making the playoffs. If that’s true, the real problem in Washington is: A) the owner; B) the head coach; C) the quarterback; or D) the players.
Dan Marino: It’s the owner. It’s the front office. You think there is no stability there in that organization because they’ve had six different coaches in the last 10 years. When you think of the Washington Redskins and winning football, you have to have stability. So I say it’s the front office.
Shannon Sharpe: You can’t have signs at FedEx Field. I’m not in FedEx Field so I brought my bag and my sign…I read the Redskins’ roster that Vinny Cerrato handed Jim Zorn. It had Peyton Manning, Reggie Wayne – oh, that’s Indy’s roster. You didn’t hand him a playoff roster. I read it, and it’s not.
Marino: Because of how they’ve handled this over the years, they’re never really going to have the chance to get a big-time coach, a big-time coach, to really commit there.
Sharpe: This is why I’m saying, read my sign.
Steinberg notes the question of whether or not Bill Cowher commented on this means he is more or less l likely to come to D.C. to be the head coach/impressario of the Redskins. My view on that hasn’t changed. Cowher is not stupid enough to become the head coach of the Redskins as long as Dan Snyder is involved in the personnel decisions. Cowher will get the deal Marty Schottenheimer got [with a lot more money] or he won’t come here at all. That way, even if Snyder tires of not getting to play with his toy [as he did with Schottenheimer], Cowher’s money is secure.
Or maybe Cowher just won’t come here no matter what. That would probably be the safest and smartest thing to do.
