Caps Prospects stats update

Many of the Washington Capitals prospects we have very little to report.  The AHL Hershey Bears are only one game into the season, ECHL South Carolina has not begun their season, and NCAA hockey begins next week.  For a roster of the Washington Capitals top prospects, check out our Caps Page.  But, we do have a few.  Here they are:

Joel Broda:  The Capitals selected Broda in the 5th round of the 2008 NHL Draft.  Broda is currently 19 years old and playing in junior hockey in the Western Hockey League for the Calgary Hitmen, Karl Alzner’s former stomping grounds.  Broda has played in 4 games this season and has recorded 2 goals and an assist. 

Benjamin Casavant:  The Capitals selected Casavant in the 7th round of the 2009 NHL Draft.  He is a young 18 years old and playing in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) for PEI.  Casavant has racked up 4 goals and 4 assits in 8 games.  3 of his 4 goals have come on the PEI power play.  He has a +2 rating.  Casavant is second on PEI in scoring.


Cody Eakin:  You may remember Eakin from Caps training camp.  He
played very well and made a positive impression on Coach Bruce
Boudreau.  Eakin was taken in the 3rd round of the 2009 NHL Draft and
is just 18 years old.  He is playing in the WHL for Swift Current.  In
7 games, Eakin has tallied 5 goals and 3 assists, leading his team in
both goals scored and total points.

Brett Flemming:  D Brett Flemming was a 5th round pick for the
Caps in the 2009 NHL Draft.  He plays in the Ontario Hockey league
(OHL) for Mississauga.  He has played in 6 games, does not have a point
and has a -2 rating.         

Marcus Johnansson:  Johnansson was the first round draft pick
for the Caps in the 2009 draft.  He returned to Sweden and is playing
for junior Team Sweden.  In 6 games, Johansson has 2 goals and a +5
rating. 

Dmitri Kugryshev:  Kugryshev was a 2008 second round darft pick
out of Russia.  He is playing for Les Remperts of the QMJHL.  In 8
games, Kugryshev has tallied 4 assists and a -2 rating.

Garrett Mitchell:  At a young 18, Mitchell was selected in the
6th round of the 2009 NHL Draft.  Mitchell is playing for the Regina
Pats of the WHL.  He has played in 3 games and has not registered a
point.

Other prospects we plan to keep you updated on, have not begun their
