Doughty to start over Horton

doughty.jpgESPN Sportstalk 980 has gotten confirmation from Redskins DC Greg Blache that S Reed Doughty will start this Sunday over second year S Chris Horton.

This really should serve as no surprise.  After a stunningly successful rookie season as a 7th round pick out of UCLA, starting for the injured Reed Doughty, Horton has ran hot and cold this year.  The second game of the season, the 9-7 win over the Rams, Horton was defensively assertive and played like he did last year, dominating at times.  In game one against the Giants and again last week against the Lions, Horton’s play was suspect, missing tackles and blowing coverage.  The Lions only TD came last week on a deep pass to Bryant Johnson with Horton on the coverage.  After that, Doughty’s play increased through the rest of the Lions debacle.

Meanwhile, Reed Dought has been playing consistently well and each game he receives more playing time, re-earning the trust of defensive coaches, after missing all of last year with a back injury. I have actually beeen impressed with Doughty and we here at DCPSR commended him for his play last week and was of the only defenders, joining MLB London Fletcher, who played like they gave a damn.

Blache also said both would play often.

Here are the stats of both players.

Chris Horton:  Total Tackles:  21, Solo Tackles:  14,  Sacks:  0,  Intercep. 0, FR:  0
Reed Doughty:  Total Tackles: 13,  Solo Tackles: 11,  Sacks: 0,  Intercep: 0,  FR: 0
