The Washington Capitals roster was set yesterday with word coming down to Chris Bourque , Tyler Sloan, and Quintin Laing to unpack their bags, they are staying in Washington, at least for now.
Bourque waived . . . Word came down today that the Capitals placed Chris Bourque on waivers.
McPhee said the reason is the Caps needed a roster spot / salary cap
space in case any player who was put on waivers from another team was
someone they wanted to claim. If the Caps don’t see anyone they
like more than Bourque and he clears waivers at noon on Wednesday, he
will remain with the team and travel to Boston on Thursday. And if Bourque is claimed by another team, the Caps will of course lose him for nothing.
Seems to me, even with Bourque being told he made the opening day roster, there must not be that much enthusiasm for Bourque. So we are told yesterday that Bourque finally gets his shot, then today, well, he is waived and that it was inevitable. Talk about a roller coaster for Bourque fans. This looks pretty bad. Looks like a sick kind of joke. Tell the kid he makes the roster, then next day cut him loose.
Well, it will be interesting to see if Bourque is picked up off the waiver wire. He probably is hoping he will be.
Captains named . . . At least according to the team photo. Chris Clark will remain the team captain for the Caps. Assistants for the season will be D Tom Poti and new Cap Mike Knuble.
