Bourque, Laing, and Sloan make the Caps roster

CAPSLOGO.jpgIn case you could not tell earlier by the prior roster reductions, the wait is over for filling the final spots on the roster.  Chris Bourque’s long wait is over.  Quitin Laing is back to DC.  Tyler Sloan impressed the Caps.  All have formally been told they have made the Washington Captials roster.

Bourque said he was avoiding Boudreau because he saw the guys who were
cut packing up their bags. Boudreau came over to him and gave him the
news by asking him if he wanted to have dinner at his dad’s place on
Wednesday night (NOTE: Ray Bourque lives in Boston)

Classic Boudreau!

In addition, Eric Fehr will likely miss the first two weeks of the regular season.  Fehr had off-season surgery and was cleared today for contact.  HC Burce Boudreau said Fehr will likely need two weeks to be ready for regular season play.

The interesting note here is that Boudreau said Tyler Sloan made the team because he was the best defensive player in camp.

Boudreau said Tlyer Sloan “was the best defenseman in camp.” He said
Sloan and Bourque made the team on merit, not because they might have
been claimed on waivers. He did tell Karl Alzner that his contract
played a role in him not making the team.

Great news.  I personally think, going on last season, and watching a little preseason, the more Sloan plays at the NHL level, the better he seemes to get.  Something Jeff Schultz has not figured out yet.   I like the confidence that Boudreau showed in Sloan last season, and Sloan did not let the Caps down, playing solid defense.  Welcome to Washington Mr. Sloan.  Hopefully Schultzie will be the healthy scratch, and you will be on the ice.

Great report by Corey Masisak from the Washington Times.

Here is your Caps roster:

FORWARDS (15):  Nicklas Backstrom, Chris Bourque,  Matt Bradley, Chris Clark, Eric Fehr, Tomas Fleischmann (INJ), Boyd Gordon, Mike Knuble, Brooks Laich, Quintin Laing, Brendan Morrison, Michael Nylander, Alex Ovechkin, Alexander Semin, Dave Steckel

DEFENSE (8):  John Erskine, Mike Green, Milan Jurcina, Shaone Morrisonn, Brian Pothier, Tom Poti, Jeff Schultz, Tyler Sloan

GOALIES (2):  Jose Theodore, Semyon Varlamov

That is 25, with 2 injured (Fleischmann and Fehr)
