Redskins barely survive the Rams, 9-7

The last thing you as a Redskins fan need is a game review of this game.  The Redskins struggled to hold off the St. Louis Rams, 9-6.

The Redskins managed just 3 field goals.  That’s it.  It was an absolutely pathetic display of red zone offense and the Redskins faithful at FEDEX Field let the Redskins know it, several times emitting a chorus of boos.

The Redskins defense played fairly well, outside the struggling corner backs.  DT Cornelius Griffin and Big Al Albert Haynesworth were dominating in the middle.  Rams running back Steven Jackson did manage 104 yards rushing, but chunks of them came running tot he outside.  Big days too for S Chris Horton, LB Rocky McInotsh, and DE/LB Brian Orakpo who were involved in some serious good defensive plays.

This game did nothing but re-enforce the Redskins as a good defensive team and a pretty poor offensive team.  In fact, the Redskins offense was just that, offensive.  They were horrific in the red zone. being forced by a mediocre to poor Rams defense to three field goals.   On a very poor call by Jim Zorn at the end of the game on 4th down and 1 yard to go at the Rams 3 yard line, Clinton Portis ran to the outside and lost 2 yards.  That’s how bad it was. Portis ran for 83 yards on 19 carries.

The Redskins move to 1-1 and the entire team can thank Greg Blache and the defense.

Absent?  How about Devin Thomas.  How about Santana Moss, who caught just two passes and coughed one up.  Jason Campbell had a so-so game, looking in control and managing well at times, other times taking shots and missing badly.  He finished 23 for 35 for 242 yards.  Chris Cooley was the long big threat again today catching 7 passes for 83 yards as Jason Campbell continued his famous check down passing.  Horton led the team in tackles with 6 tackles and 1 assist.  The Redskins were also plagued with 6 untimely penalties.

Dan-
Sell the team. You've done nothing, but take all of the joy out of being a fan while you milk every nickel out of an organization built by other people's good stewardship. Even your mentor, Jerry Jones, has managed to put a better (though still flawed) product on the field. And I'm sure the only thing you noticed last night was the shiny, new stadium which we all know you want to build. You've meddled and intervened (in football operations) and driven anyone who might make a nickel off of the franchise out of business. You've raised the prices, but NOT the quality of the product. Going to a Skins game is now akin to a Raiders game - expensive, loud and disappointing. (Can we dispense with Redskins Nation, please? Or add a skull to our logo...).
Dan, sell the team before we all forget how precious it once was to be a Redkins fan.
