Redskins actually get some love, Is Florio's PFT Influenced?

The Washington Redskins appear in most power polls, simply look two posts below this one for a power poll roundup, at spots number 18 through 20.  Basically, these pollsters, if you so call them, see the Redskinsthe same team as last year.  There is no accounting for Albert Haynesworth effect, an entire season effect of DeAngelo Hall, or the noticeable progression of second year wideouts Devin Thomas and starter Malcolm Kelly.  So be it, prove it on the field.

But, Mike Florio at Pro Football Talk goes against the regular media grain.  Not only does he pick the Washington Redskins to win the NFC East, but he picks them to face off against Pittsburgh in the Superbowl.

Our best guess as of right now is that the Redskins and the Steelers will face off in February, and that the Steelers will win their third title in five years.

A lot of careful thought went into that.  Specifically, the guys at WSSP in Milwaukee put me on the spot Wednesday morning, and so I blurted out the picks my cousin Josh had e-mailed to me the day before.

But I’ll go with that.  I’ve been saying for months that the Redskins could be the surprise team of the NFC, and the Steelers are bringing back too much talent and have too good of a coach to not be considered the favorites to return to the championship game.

Here’s the rest of the AFC playoff field, as we (actually, I) see it.

AFC East champ:  Patriots.

AFC North champ:  Steelers.

AFC South champ:  Titans.

AFC West champ:  Chargers.

Wild cards:  Bengals and Colts.

For the NFC, here’s what we’ve got.

NFC East champ:  Redskins.

NFC North champ:  Vikings.

NFC South champ:  Saints.

NFC West champ:  Seahawks.

Wild cards:  Packers and Falcons.

My take on Florio’s bold prediction?  He was either high on drugs when he created this scenario or he is crafty, bold, and going out on a limb thinking the Redskins defense along with the two second year receivers will lift Washington to new heights.  We think it is a combination of both.  The drugs he must have been on may not have been very strong, but they were strong enough to make Florio gutsy in his prediction.

Maybe come February, a ton of media and pundits will be seeking Florio’s supplier.
