Head Coach Jim Zorn announced that Todd Collins will go into the regular season as the #2 QB on the depth chart. Colt Brennan, who had hoped to challenge Collins, is having a poor preseason and must now fight off a challenge to his own position from undrafted Chase Daniels, who threw for 8.9 billion yards as a college quarterback. So far in the preseason, the two match up like this:

Brennan: 7 for 17, 85 yards, 41.2 completion percentage, 0 TDs, 2 interceptions

Daniel: 6 for 8, 58 yards, 75 completion percentage, 2 TDs, no interceptions

Brennan is philosophical about the change in his fortunes.

“The NFL dude, it’s amazing what two weeks will do to you,” Brennan said. “Two weeks ago, everyone’s saying you’re the most interesting battle for the No. 2 job in the NFL. Two weeks later, you’re competing at No. 3 and supposedly dating a pop star. That’s just the NFL, I guess. I can’t wait ’til next week and the week after. Luckily there’s still plenty of good that can still happen.”

As for Daniels, he may one of the smallest quarterbacks wearing a  jersey right now, but he’s the big man on campus right now. Read it.
An improved performance against the Steelers has left the offensive line feeling a bit better about itself after a month of doubt and dread.

“As long as I’ve been playing football, the defense always seems to start out a step ahead,” center Casey Rabach said. “But the past week and a half or so, we’ve really been jelling, and I think we’re becoming the line that we want to be. There’s still room for improvement, but things are coming together.”

Expect CB Carlos Rogers and FB Mike Sellers to be sufficiently recovered from injuries to play in Friday night’s ga me at Fed Ex against the New England Patriots. Read it. Mike Williams has increased his physical activity and hopes to play against the Patriots, but his health is an ongoing concern. Read it.
Anthony Montgomery and Kedric Golston are both backups now, due to the acquisition of Albert Haynesworth, but they seem fine with that. They should be, since the Redskins will be limiting the plays both Haynesworth and Cornelius Griffin get during the season. Washington will have a rotation along the defensive line and both Montgomery and Golston will get plenty of time on the field. Read it.

Marko Mitchell is getting a lot of attention as a possible 5th WR on the team this year due to his performances in preseason and in training camp practices. The fact that he’s being used in first team special teams coverage units means the coaches are serious about seeing if this guy can make the final roster. Fifth wide receivers are expected to play a lot of special teams. Read it
Dan Daly asks if Albert Haynesworth is the second coming of Reggie White. Read it. Haynesworth is a fine player, but he’s not in the class of Reggie White. Almost no one is.

The Dallas news follows local boy Brian Orakpo to Washington to check on his progress. They’re most surprised about his move to SLB, a move that shocked Orakpo, as well. Judging by the early results, Orakpo and the Redskins have reason to be happy. Opposing quarterbacks — not so much. Read it.
Orakpo isn’t the only one working on a move from DE to OLB. Chris Wilson, who had two sacks against the Steelers on Saturday, is also making the transition. In fact, Wilson and Orakpo have spent a lot of time around each other this summer, as they both try to master a new place on defense. Read it.

Chris Cooley fights bees. Seriously. Let’s watch the video.

LB Robert Henson had a Twitter pity party after not playing in the win over Pittsburgh. Read it.
Patriots Bill Belichick, who breathes lies and deception, says the Redskins have as good a defense as his team will face. I hope he’s not lying about that. Unfortunately, he also says the Skins are good in the kicking game, which we all know is a lie, so come to your own conclusions about everything he says in this press conference. Read it.
