A new feature for 2009, so get used to it. We will bring you each week of the Redskins football season a perspective from an enemy site. We will submit 5 to 6 questions to them, and await their answers, kind of like opposition research, but done for you, right here at DCPSR.
First up, the Baltimore Ravens. Joe Barnes of Ebony Bird has been kind enough to answer our questions regarding the Baltimore Ravens. To learn more and keep track of the Ravens, we encourage you to visit Joe’s website, Ebony Bird. You can follow Joe on Twitter as well.
DCPSR: What is the biggest Ravens training camp battle?.
Ebony Bird: I’d have to say that it’s at kicker. We’ve got last year’s backup
Steve Hauschka and undrafted free agent Graham Gano from Florida State
battling it out. They’re both young guys who are solid kickers, but in
Baltimore our kickers are as important as our quarterbacks.
DCPSR: Who has been the biggest surprise in training camp this season?
been rookie cornerback/safety Lardarius Webb. He was drafted in the
3rd round out of Nichol State and has been all over the place,
picking off passes and making some nice hits on the practice field.
Ebony Bird: The first three picks the Ravens had (Michael
Oher, DE Paul Kruger and Webb) have all been performing incredibly
well, and Oher is very likely to become the team’s starting right
tackle. Beyond that, LB Jason Phillips (4th) and TE Davon Drew (5th)
look to be solid locks. RB Cedric Peerman (6th), a guy ESPN was in
love with, is trying to break into a very crowded backfield, but might
just be able to. The team had no 7th round pick.
Ebony Bird: I’ve been following this situation, and most recently have had an initial reaction post to the news here, but later followed it up with a claim that I’m pretty confident in making, that the team is not in fact going to pursue him. So basically, no, I do not think that Michael Vick will be a Raven. At least not this year.
Ebony Bird: My prediction for the Ravens is a year similar
to last season’s. Their schedule isn’t that tough, and looking at it
game by game, I believe that their record could end up being anywhere
from 9-7 to 12-4. Probably 10-6 would be good enough for wild card,
and they’ve always been solid in the playoffs. Saying Super Bowl right
now is a little ambitious, it’s hard to judge how a team with so many
new faces will mesh.
Ebony Bird: The Ebony Bird has been around since November of
2007. I took over in early December 2008 for Jarrett Carter, who blogs
about Baltimore-DC sports at Stet Sports Blog. The site is on the FanSided network, which has over 100 sports blogs ranging from NFL to Sports PR.
