Tick … Tick … Tick …
The Washington Nationals are now down to 11 days left to sign first round, first overall pick Stephen Strasburg.
Let’s take a look around the Web for the latest on Strasburg.
Bleacher Report writes on the deadline approaching.
With the state of the economy today it is unlikely that Strasburg and his agent Scott Boras can work out a deal with the Nationals.
The Nationals have had a huge drop in attendance this season with 358,775 fewer fans at home games than in 2008.
First, we’ll disagree with the first paragraph. State of economy has nothing to do with the signing or not signing of Stephen Strasburg. It has more to do with ownership philosophy, which baffles me, because the Lerner’s KNEW before they drafted him, what kind of numbers they would have to be around.
The second paragraph has more to do with not only are the Nationals the worst team in baseball, but since the Nats have been here for three seasons, the franchise has not provided a product to lure casual fans, build a following with new fans, or excite the little base there is. In fact, the poor product year to year has really damaged and hampered the ability to grow baseball in the DC area. Strasburg will only be a temporary bump if the Nationals ownership continues to sell the team short and act like a small market franchise.
So here we go, another day gone, now the Nats are down to 11 days before the entire legitmacy of their ownership could shatter the cracks already in the mantle.
