Guess you can say we had a one year rental of Anderson Hernandez. The Nationals dealt him back to the Mets today in exchange for minor league 2B Greg Veloz. The Post provides some info on Veloz.
Veloz, who had been hitting .231 with the Class A St. Lucie Mets, will
be assigned to Class A Potomac. To replace Hernandez on the 25-man
roster, the Nationals have recalled reliever Saul Rivera from Class AAA
Syracuse. But that bolstered bullpen depth might be a short-term
measure to get the Nationals through the final few games before their
Monday off day. If the team wants further infield depth, it could look
to utility man Mike Morse, currently hitting .312 with the Chiefs.
The Nationals have recalled reliever Saul Rivera to replace Hernandez on the roster. My assumption is, the Nationals will now split time between Ronnie Belliard and Albert Gonzales. Second base will most certainly be an area the nationals will expect to solidfy in the off-season.
