Nats Farm Wrap for AUG 5

Syracuse Chiefs (AAA)

The Chiefs dropped a tight one to Norfolk 8-7.  Ross Detwiler only pitched 2/3 of an inning before a rain delay forced him out.  Former Nat Saul Rivera blew his second save and dropped his record to 2-5.  Jorge Padilla was 3 for 4 with a double and a run.  Padilla is hitting .367.  When will the Nationals take a look at Padilla?  Padilla hit .317 last season between AA and AAA.   Justin Maxwell is firing up the bat.  He went 3 for 4 and raised his average to .247.  He has a 6 game hitting streak and during that stretch has gone 11 for 23 (.478).  Michael Vento was 3 for 4 and smacked his 5th homer. 

HOT BATJorge Padilla is hitting .385 ove rhis last 10 games including 4 doubles.  Justin Maxwell is hitting .368 over his last 10 with 2 triples and 4 RBis. 

Harrisburg Senators (AA):

The Senators remain hot, defeating Binghamton 7-2.  Harrisburg has now won 3 in arrow and a whopping 9 of their last 10.  Bradley Meyers, who has pitched super impressively to this point, threw 3.2 innings allowing 2 runs.  Justin Jones picked up the win in long relief throwing 4.2 innings and striking out 4.  Joel Guzman continued ripping the ball going 3-4 with a triple.  he is hitting .307.  Jemel Spearman was 2 for 3 with a double and 2 RBis.    

HOT BAT:   Joel Guzman has 3 doubles and 5 RBis while hitting .303 over his last 10 games.  Sean Rooney has a 8 game hitting streak going  11 for 27 over the stretch. 

Potomac Nationals (A):

The Nationals fell to Frederick 7-3.  Jordan Zimmerman pitched 3.1 innings and struck out 6 in a rehab start with Potomac.  The bullpen could not hold on as Bradley Peacock got pounded for 4 runs on 9 hits in 3.1 innings of relief.  Mike Martinez, Danny Espinosa, and Tim Pahuta each had 2 hits while Espinosa smacked 2 homers (15).  Chris Marrero was 1 for 3 and hit his 16th homer of the season.  

HOT BATMike Martinez has drive in 5 runs and hit .364 over his last 10 games.  Jesus Valdez has scored 7 runs and hit a whopping .436 (17-39) over his last 10 games.  

Hagerstown Suns (A):

The Suns defeated Delmarva 4-1 behind strong pitching from Anthony Morris and a solid bullpen effort.  Morris pitched 5 innings allowing 6 hits and 1 run on 4 strikeouts.  Patrick Arnold, Juan Jaime, and Carlos Peralta combined to throw 4 scoreless innings and Peralta picked up his 7th save.  Offensively, 2008 draft pick Tyler Moore tripled and knocked in two runs and went 3 for 4.  Moore is hitting .294.   Steve Souza was 2 for 3. 

HOT BATCharlie Fairmont has an 8 game hitting streak.   Steve Lombardozzi has hit .316 over his last 10 games. 

Vermont Lake Monsters (Short A):

Lake Monsters fell 4-3 to Auburn.  Vermont got a solid starting effort from high 2008 draft pick Jack McGeary, tosssing 5 innings, allowing 1 run and striking out 5.  Adam Amar had two hits including his second homer.  Destin Hood drove in 2 runs.

HOT BATFrancisco Soriano has score 8 runs and hit .371 over the last 10 games.  Johnathan Higley has hit .359 over his last 10 games.   

Gulf Coast Nationals (Rookie):

The rookie Nats ripped the Astros 7-1.  Daniel Rosenbaum keeps asking for a promotion to Vermont or Hagerstown by throwing 6 innings, allowing 3 hits and 0 runs while whiffing 7 batters.  Rosenbaum lowered his ERA to 2.05.  Brett Newsome drove in 2 runs and Eury Perez added an RBI.  Perez is hitting .340.

HOT BAT:   Eury Perez has drive in 7 runs and hit .381 over his last 10 games.  He is hitting .340 on the year.
